@Java: Bringing a richer annotation model to Java
Computer Languages, Systems & Structures, 2014Abstract The ability to annotate code and, in general, the capability to attach arbitrary meta-data to portions of a program are features that have become more and more common in programming languages. Annotations in Java make it possible to attach custom, structured meta-data to declarations of classes, fields and methods.

Though the Java programming language was designed with extreme care, there are still a few ambiguities and irregularities left in the language. The ambiguities are those issues that are not defined clearly in the Java language specification. The different results produced by different compilers on several example programs justify our observations.

Jest is a Java VM extended to support transactions and general-purpose persistence. Jest allows Java programmers to manipulate any object using transactions and provides resilience to machine failure for these objects. Jest extends Java's current emphasis on safety and reliability to the safe and consistent management of permanent state.

This paper reports on the development of a language construct designed to solve certain problems in composability at the level of object-oriented programming languages. Features were chosen to investigate how much compositional functionality could be added to core Java with as small a change as possible and in an additive manner.

Java evolved out of a Sun research project started six years ago to look into distributed control of consumer electronics devices. At that time, the priori ties of the consumer electronics industry were quite different from those in the computer industry.

A common pattern among undergraduate computer science curriculums is to teach an introductory subject in Python followed by a more advanced software engineering subject in Java. We are building an online tool that will help students who already know Python learn the syntax and semantics of Java.

Iremember way back in the old days, it was so easy to talk to other CSE people about CS1, since we basically all knew the plot of Cooper and Clancy's of Oh Pascal! I could talk about problems with "the var parameter lecture" and people pretty much knew what I was talking about since the basic layout of the course ...
