Contextualising Archaeological Information Through Interactive Maps

open access: yesInternet Archaeology, 2002
Many web sites use maps delivered as non-interactive images. With the development of web-enabled mapping, new methods of presenting and contextualising archaeological and historical data are becoming available.

1/f Noise and Long Configuration Memory in Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld Models on Narrow Stripes [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 83, 2449 (1999)., 1999
We report our findings of an 1/f power spectrum for the total amount of sand in directed and undirected Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld models confined on narrow stripes and driven locally. The underlying mechanism for the 1/f noise in these systems is an exponentially long configuration memory giving rise to a very broad distribution of time scales.

Free tools for crystallographic symmetry handling and visualization

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 57, Issue 5, Page 1618-1639, October 2024.
In crystallography there exist a wide variety of online resources such as web pages, interactive applets, databases and programs that can be implemented in both virtual and traditional classrooms. Among these, the Bilbao Crystallographic Server, the Cambridge Structural Database, Mercury, VESTA and Jmol are highlighted for teaching fundamental ...

Los microciberjuegos y el aprendizaje de las Ciencias Sociales: el mundo java [ The microcybergames and the learning of the Social Sciences: The java world ]

open access: yesRELIEVE: Revista Electrónica de Investigación y Evaluación Educativa, 2003
The possibilities and didactic limitations of the computer games stand out. The utility of themicrocybergames in the educative surrounings of Internet is put of relief.

Qualitative Theory for Lensed QSOs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We show that some characteristics of multiply-imaged QSO systems are very model-independent and can be deduced accurately by simply scrutinizing the relative positions of images and galaxy-lens center. These include the time-ordering of the images, the orientation of the lens potential, and the rough morphology of any ring.

MyChemise: A 2D drawing program that uses morphing for visualisation purposes

open access: yesJournal of Cheminformatics, 2011
MyChemise (My Chemical Structure Editor) is a new 2D structure editor. It is designed as a Java applet that enables the direct creation of structures in the Internet using a web browser. MyChemise saves files in a digital format (.cse) and the import and

A portable modeler of lensed quasars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We introduce and implement two novel ideas for modeling lensed quasars. The first idea is to require different lenses to agree about H_0. This means that some models for one lens can be ruled out by data on a different lens. We explain using two worked examples.

Simulating a Rotational Inverted Pendulum Model by using Matlab and Easy Java Simulations

open access: yesTecnoLógicas, 2012
This paper presents the analysis, design and construction of a virtual simulator, in which the behavior of a non-lineal system as the rotational inverted pendulum is represented graphically in an interface.
