JavaScript

ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes, 2006
A whole article on JavaScript? You bet. JavaScript has always been the glue that holds your HTML pages together and now, in conjunction with XML, JavaScript is enjoying a new wave of popularity. So I thought I'd dedicate this month's column to a short exploration of JavaScript and highlight some sites that will not only help you write JavaScript, but ...

Extensible modules for JavaScript

Proceedings of the 31st Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2016
The module pattern in JavaScript is commonly used to encapsulate definitions by using closures. However, closures prevent module definitions from being extended at runtime. We propose a simple pattern that not only opens the module, but allows one to extend the module definitions in layers.

JavaScript

Proceedings of the 3rd annual conference on Systems, programming, and applications: software for humanity, 2012
We describe an empirical study to understand how JavaScript language features are used by the programmers. Our test corpus is larger than any previous work (more than 1 million scripts) and it attempts to target JS usage from various points of view. We describe the usage results of JS language features.

The Rise of JavaScript

Computing in Science & Engineering, 2018
In this special issue of CiSE, we focus on a small sample of libraries and tools written in JavaScript that might interest scientists and engineers. Our goal is, of course, not to be exhaustive nor representative—given the huge and rapidly expanding field—but to spark the readers curiosity and show how certain tasks are remarkably easy in JavaScript.

Core JavaScript and JavaScript Frameworks

2013
A lot of applications are being developed today using Ajax and HTML 5. Developing a rich web application can get really tedious, thanks to JavaScript. Building an application by writing JavaScript code that can be easily tested and maintained is not simple. It requires a great deal of coding discipline.

Understanding the dynamics of JavaScript

Proceedings for the 1st workshop on Script to Program Evolution, 2009
We report on preliminary results on understanding the nature of JavaScript programs. Our investigation is motivated by the goal of developing a type system for JavaScript programs. As a prelude, we decide to gain a better understanding of the dynamic behaviour of JavaScript programs.
