A classification of the edentulous jaws
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1988A classification of the edentulous jaws has been developed based on a randomised cross-sectional study from a sample of 300 dried skulls. It was noted that whilst the shape of the basalar process of the mandible and maxilla remains relatively stable, changes in shape of the alveolar process is highly significant in both the vertical and horizontal axes.

The mandibular canal of the edentulous jaw
Clinical Anatomy, 2001AbstractThe morphology of the mandibular canal after loss of teeth has received little detailed attention. Improved documentation of this topic would allow better interpretation of dental radiographs and would enable those engaged in tooth implantation to better understand the nature of the tissue into which the prostheses are placed.

Completely impacted teeth in dentate and edentulous jaws
Australian Dental Journal, 1996AbstractPanoramic radiographs from 1026 patients were examined for the presence of completely impacted teeth. The prevalence of completely impacted teeth in the edentulous jaw was lower than that in the dentate jaw in both the upper and lower jaws. The prevalence of completely impacted third molars in the edentulous jaw was also lower than that in the ...

Digital intraoral scanning technique for edentulous jaws
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2018Few studies have evaluated direct digital scans of edentulous jaws using intraoral scanners because it is difficult to scan edentulous sites that are smooth and devoid of features. A scanning technique is introduced for making direct digital scans of edentulous jaws with intraoral scanners in patients with a broad palate.

Assessing the feasibility and accuracy of digitizing edentulous jaws
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2013Despite the accuracy of intraoral scanners (IOSs) in producing single-unit scans and the possibility of generating complete dentures digitally, little is known about their feasibility and accuracy in digitizing edentulous jaws. The purpose of this in vitro investigation was to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of digitizing edentulous jaw models ...
