Is the World Getting Smaller? Network‐Driven Heterogeneity in Gravity‐Model Elasticities

open access: yesThe World Economy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gravity models constitute the workhorse of empirical international trade research, yet the temporal stability of their core parameters—distance and GDP elasticities—remains underexplored, particularly in relation to the evolving structure of trade networks.

Geometric Shrinkage Priors for Kählerian Signal Filters

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
We construct geometric shrinkage priors for Kählerian signal filters. Based on the characteristics of Kähler manifolds, an efficient and robust algorithm for finding superharmonic priors which outperform the Jeffreys prior is introduced.

On the Independence Jeffreys prior for skew--symmetric models with applications

open access: yes, 2013
We study the Jeffreys prior of the skewness parameter of a general class of scalar skew--symmetric models. It is shown that this prior is symmetric about 0, proper, and with tails $O(λ^{-3/2})$ under mild regularity conditions. We also calculate the independence Jeffreys prior for the case with unknown location and scale parameters.

Teaching Through Making: |xam and !xun Material Culture of the Bleek and Lloyd Collection

open access: yesMuseum Anthropology, Volume 50, Issue 1, Spring 2027.
ABSTRACT At Wits Art Museum (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa) is a small collection donated to the former Wits Museum of Ethnology by Percival Kirby in 1952. A note in the accession register ties the items into the context of the renowned ‘Bushman researches’ of Wilhelm Bleek and Lucy Lloyd in Cape Town in the 1870s and ...

A Sequential Monte Carlo Method for Bayesian Poisson Process Trees

open access: yesStat, Volume 15, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Statistical analysis of spatial point patterns often needs to deal with heterogeneous structures in intensity function estimation with possibly high‐dimensional covariate space. Likelihood based inference for spatial point process models needs to address the challenges in evaluating the multidimensional integral of random intensity function ...

Jeffreys' prior is the Hausdorff measure for the Hellinger and Kullback-Leibler distances [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
On a family F := P# j # 2 IR k of probability measures on a measure space( ; A) we consider the Hellinger and Kullback-Leibler distances. We show that under suitable regularity conditions Jeffreys' prior is proportional to the k-dimensional ...

Functional Network Organization Underlying Individual Differences in False Feedback Susceptibility: A Graph Theoretical Analysis

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 16, November 2026.
Individual differences in susceptibility to somatosensory false feedback (sFFB) predict altered network topography between regions previously implicated in sFFB. This work supports an interoceptive integration model of sFFB and highlights the importance of network topology in determining how individuals weigh and integrate internal and external ...

Acute Caffeine Intake Does Not Modulate Active or Reactive Inhibition in Non‐Clinical Young Adults, and ADHD Symptoms Do Not Moderate Its Effects

open access: yesHuman Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental, Volume 41, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Caffeine is consumed for its presumed cognitive benefits, yet controlled studies have repeatedly failed to find effects on inhibitory control. Cross‐sectional work suggests that people with elevated attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms may benefit from chronic, moderate caffeine consumption, but whether acute ...

Correcting automatically generated closed captions for online learning materials does not improve student learning outcomes (although students believe it does)

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, Volume 57, Issue 6, Page 1423-1439, November 2026.
Abstract Lecture capture is ubiquitous in higher education. Lecture capture recordings are typically accompanied by automatically generated closed captions that are sometimes corrected by humans. Students self‐report that they benefit from captions, and particularly human‐corrected captions.
