The religious movement that would grow into the Jehovah's Witnesses first coalesced in Pittsburgh in the 1870s around a young founder named Charles Taze Russell. Though previously disillusioned with religion, Russell was strongly influenced by Adventist ideas of Jesus' imminent return.

Jehovah’S Witnesses are deeply religious people who try to live their lives according to the commands of God, as written in the Old and New Testaments. They believe that the Kingdom of God will soon be experienced on earth. At that time God will resurrect many former inhabitants on earth, and a number who are so destined will rule in heaven with Christ.
