Groundwater occurrence on Jeju Island, Korea

Hydrogeology Journal, 2005
Jeju Island is a volcanic island composed predominantly of permeable basalts. The island is poor in surface water but abundant in groundwater. No actual perennial streams exist and the water resources on the island are dependent almost entirely on groundwater. The groundwater bodies on the island are classified into three general categories: high level,

Early-stage volcanism and sedimentation of Jeju Island revealed by the Sagye borehole, SW Jeju Island, Korea

Geosciences Journal, 2004
Jeju Island comprises extensive lava flows and hundreds of monogenetic volcanic cones with rare and thin sedimentary deposits. However, a number of boreholes reveal that the lavas are only 50 to 120 m thick along the coastal regions and are underlain by a 100 m-thick volcaniclastic sedimentary formation, which is correlative with the Seoguipo Formation.

Instantaneous wind power penetration in Jeju Island

2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2008
Recently, many wind power generators are installed through the sponsorship of government in Korea. Jeju is the largest island in Korea with high wind energy potential. It has autonomous electric grid and its electrical load reaches over 600 MW. When the wind power possesses a significant portion of a power system, it can cause various problems.
