Trends in the Management and Outcome of Jejuno-Ileal Atresia
European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2002The aim of this study was to evaluate contemporary patterns of presentation and trends in the management and outcome of newborn infants with jejuno-ileal atresia at a regional paediatric surgical centre in the United Kingdom. The hospital neonatal surgical registry was used to identify patients with jejuno-ileal atresia (n = 83) admitted between 1976 -

Two sisters with ileal atresia are described. Both had a type IIIa atresia successfully corrected and both are well on follow-up. Jejuno-ileal atresia in siblings is a rare event, and this is believed to be the first such report in the Southern hemisphere.

Management of gastroschisis with concomitant jejuno-ileal atresia
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1998The incidence of jejuno-ileal atresia in neonates concomitantly found to possess gastroschisis has been reported to be 5% to 25%. Initial treatment for this condition has not been well established.Thirteen newborns with gastroschisis and coexisting jejuno-ileal atresia, were identified and treated at our institution over the past 16 years (1978 through

Jejuno-ileal atresia: A 2-year preliminary study on presentation and outcome [PDF]
Intestinal atresia is a common cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction. Jejuno-ileum is the commonest site of intestinal atresia. Reports on Jejunoileal atresia in developing countries are still few. The purpose of this study is to determine the presentation and management outcomes of neonates with Jejunoileal atresia treated in our hospital.Detailed ...

Jejuno-ileal atresia in identical twins: Report of a case
Surgery Today, 2000Small intestinal atresia occurring in twins is extremely rare. The aims of this study are to report a case of identical twins with different types of jejunal atresia, to review six other pairs of twins, and discuss the etiology. Our case was the seventh in which both twins were diagnosed to have jejuno-ileal atresia. Furthermore, they are also only the

Composition of amniotic fluid with experimental jejuno-ileal atresia
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1977The possibility that the composition of amniotic fluid is significantly altered with fetal intestinal obstruction was examined in 15 normal, 15 sham operated and 15 ewes in which jejuno-ileal atresia was created by devascularizing a 15 cm intestinal segment in the fetus at 90--100 days gestation.

Morbidity and Mortality in Small Bowel Atresia. Jejuno-ileal Atresia
Zeitschrift Für Kinderchirurgie, 1987One hundred and one babies were admitted to the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London, between 1967 and 1981, suffering from small bowel atresia. The overall mortality in this period was 23%, although in the years 1974-81 this fell to 12%. Mortality was considerably higher in jejunal atresia than in ileal atresia.

New simple low-cost surgical approach to complex jejuno-ileal atresia
Tropical Doctor, 2020We report our experience of staged operations in the surgical treatment of complex jejuno-ileal atresia. Our study examined transgastric deflation of the proximal segment and feeding jejunostomy through the distal segment as a first stage followed by a definitive restoration of continuity secondarily at a tertiary centre over a period of three years.

Outcomes of end-to-side oblique anastomosis as a surgical technique for jejuno-ileal atresia
Updates in Surgery, 2019All of the anastomotic techniques used for jejuno-ileal atresia aim to overcome the size discrepancy between the resected bowel ends, lessen anastomotic complication and prevent development of short bowel syndrome. Aim of study was to evaluate the outcomes of end-to-side oblique anastomosis for jejuno-ileal atresia and verifying the risk factors for ...
