Ultrasmall 2D Sn‐Doped MAPbBr3 Nanoplatelets Enable Bright Pure‐Blue Emission

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 28, July 17, 2025.
This study introduces a novel room‐temperature method for synthesizing ultrasmall Sn‐doped MAPbBr3 nanoplatelets that exhibit pure blue emission with a narrow full width at half maximum. This result is achieved by incorporating octylamine into both the precursor and antisolvent to suppress rapid growth.

Impact of Data Assimilation Frequency and Observation Location in Thermal Effluent Modeling for Coastal Waters

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract This study investigates the application of data assimilation (DA) using the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) to address the uncertainties associated with modeling the thermal effluents discharged from power and desalination plants into a shallow, tidal bay.

Zooplankton and Picocyanobacteria Contribute Characteristic Size Ranges of Organic Particles to Different Layers of the Anoxic Water Column

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 39, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Oxygen deficient zones (ODZs) are key areas of nitrogen loss, a process dependent on organic matter. Understanding the sources of organic matter in the ODZ is necessary to predict how biogeochemical cycles will respond to ocean changes. Size fractionated (5–20, 20–53, 53–180, 180–500, >500 μm) particulate organic C and N (POM) concentration ...

Practical guidelines for validation of supervised machine learning models in accelerometer‐based animal behaviour classification

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 7, Page 1322-1334, July 2025.
Overfitting is a major challenge in supervised machine learning and requires thorough validation to detect. A review of the animal accelerometer‐based behaviour classification literature revealed most studies did not adequately validate for overfitting.
