Synthetic pelagic biomass size spectra of the tropical and subtropical Atlantic

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Synthetic normalized biomass size spectra (NBSS) comprising non‐synoptically sampled phytoplankton, meso‐ and macrozooplankton, and micronekton including mesopelagic fishes were explored to analyze pelagic community structure in seven regions of the tropical and the subtropical Atlantic representative of different water bodies (NE Brazil shelf,

Mitochondrial diversity in Gonionemus (Trachylina:Hydrozoa) and its implications for understanding the origins of clinging jellyfish in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2017
Determining whether a population is introduced or native to a region can be challenging due to inadequate taxonomy, the presence of cryptic lineages, and poor historical documentation.

Jellyfish‐Derived Activated Carbon: Synthesis, Characterization, and Adsorption Performance

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Chemistry, Volume 66, Issue 3, May 2026.
This research introduces a circular economy solution for environmental water cleanup by transforming invasive jellyfish biomass into high‐quality activated carbon. Through pyrolysis and KOH activation, the created porous material efficiently removes methylene blue and lead from water.

Metal‐Doped Carbon‐Based Nanomaterials: Photothermal Mechanism Innovation and Precision Therapy Advancement in Antibacterial and Antitumor Applications

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Metal‐doped carbon‐based nanomaterials (M‐CNM) play a strategically significant role in next‐generation precision antibacterial and antitumor therapies, as they integrate synergistic photothermal ablation, catalytic reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and multimodal imaging capabilities. However, their clinical translation is hindered by

Detached tentacles of lion’s mane jellyfish Cyanea capillata can injure aquaculture fish

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions
Gelatinous zooplankton can cause fish mortalities and economic losses for aquaculture companies. While protective measures against jellyfish blooms are increasingly implemented, free-floating tentacles have not been considered.

From 0D to 3D liquid crystal elastomers architectures: Fabrications and applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, Volume 4, Issue 2, May 2026.
This review presents a dimension‐oriented overview of liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), highlighting their molecular alignment, fabrication strategies, and programmable deformations from 0D particles to 3D architectures. Emphasis is placed on how dimensionality guides design principles, enables diverse actuation modes, and bridges fundamental ...

First evidence of inbreeding, relatedness and chaotic genetic patchiness in the holoplanktonic jellyfish Pelagia noctiluca (Scyphozoa, Cnidaria). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Genetic drift and non-random mating seldom influence species with large breeding populations and high dispersal potential, characterized by unstructured gene pool and panmixia at a scale lower than the minimum dispersal range of individuals.

Jellyfish blooms restructure plankton dynamics and trophic linkages in coastal waters

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 1443-1460, May 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Jellyfish blooms are increasing globally in frequency and intensity, introducing complex ecological interactions, yet the mechanisms by which they alter ecosystem structure remain poorly characterized due to a lack of sustained field observations.
