An Optimal Segmentation Method Using Jensen–Shannon Divergence via a Multi-Size Sliding Window Technique

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
In this paper we develop a new procedure for entropic image edge detection. The presented method computes the Jensen–Shannon divergence of the normalized grayscale histogram of a set of multi-sized double sliding windows over the entire image.

Advanced information criterion for environmental data quality assurance [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Science and Research, 2012
A new method for testing time series of environmental data for internal inconsistencies is presented. The method divides the dataset into several disjunct blocks.

Correlations, Information Backflow, and Objectivity in a Class of Pure Dephasing Models

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
We critically examine the role that correlations established between a system and fragments of its environment play in characterising the ensuing dynamics.

Academic misconduct appeal services in China: Platform logics, self‐platformization and implications for integrity education

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Academic misconduct appeal services have quietly emerged within China's education marketplace, with commercial agencies promoting themselves on social media to assist international students facing misconduct hearings. While existing research on academic integrity has emphasized prevention and detection, far less attention has been paid to what

Sequences of Inequalities Among New Divergence Measures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
There are three classical divergence measures exist in the literature on information theory and statistics. These are namely, Jeffryes-Kullback-Leiber J-divergence.

New Improvements of the Jensen–Mercer Inequality for Strongly Convex Functions with Applications

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we use the generalized version of convex functions, known as strongly convex functions, to derive improvements to the Jensen–Mercer inequality. We achieve these improvements through the newly discovered characterizations of strongly convex

Information Geometric Approach on Most Informative Boolean Function Conjecture

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
Let X n be a memoryless uniform Bernoulli source and Y n be the output of it through a binary symmetric channel. Courtade and Kumar conjectured that the Boolean function f : { 0 , 1 } n → { 0 , 1 } that maximizes the ...

Spatial metrics in fire ecology: seeking consistency amidst complexity

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Technological advances, including remote sensing, have led to a proliferation of metrics used in ecological studies to examine spatial patterns of fire regimes and their ecological effects. Researchers can use many different metrics to analyse spatial variation in both fire events and resulting fire regimes, including fire size, shape ...

Identifying the Digital Camera from Natural Images Using Residual Noise and the Jensen–Shannon Divergence

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2022
Regarding the problem of digital camera identification, many methods have been proposed, and for several of them, their effectiveness has been verified on the basis of disputed flat images.

Empowering teachers and fostering pupil climate action in Welsh primary schools

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The Curriculum for Wales intends to help students understand and address climate change, but relies on teachers' knowledge and implementation thereof. This article focuses on “The Lifecycle of My Clothes”, a unit of work (UoW) developed by academics and practitioners. The UoW aimed to increase students' awareness of the environmental impact of
