A gyrokinetic perspective on the JET-ILW pedestal
Nuclear Fusion, 2017JET has been unable to recover historical confinement levels when operating with an ITER-like wall (ILW) due largely to the inaccessibility of high pedestal temperatures. Finding a path to overcome this challenge is of utmost importance for both a prospective JET DT campaign and for future ITER operation.

Microtearing turbulence limiting the JET-ILW pedestal [PDF]
Abstract The first nonlinear gyrokinetic turbulence simulations that quantitatively reproduce experimental transport levels in an H-mode pedestal are reported. In the JET-ILW (ITER-like wall) pedestal, the bulk of the transport in the steep gradient region is caused by the turbulence driven by the microtearing mode (MTM).

Modelling with COREDIV Code of JET ILW Configuration
Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2010AbstractIn this paper we present integrated numerical modeling for the first time applied to AT discharges with tungsten wall using the COREDIV code. We concentrate on numerical simulations of Ne seeded scenarios in the new ILW JET configuration. Results show that the JET operating space might be limited, with tungsten wall, to high density plasmas ...

Spectroscopic measurements of Be erosion at JET ILW and interpretation with ERO modelling
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2013Abstract Beryllium (Be) erosion has been studied in dedicated limiter discharges in JET with the recently installed ITER-like wall [1] . Passive spectroscopy [2] in the vicinity of the solid Be limiter is used for measurement of the Be physical sputtering as the main erosion mechanism.

The development of safe high current operation in JET-ILW
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2015Abstract The JET tokamak is unique amongst present fusion devices in its capability to operate at high plasma current, providing the closest plasma parameters to ITER. The physics benefits of high current operation have to be balanced against the risks to the integrity of the machine due to high force disruptions.

Two high performance JET-ILW pulses, pertaining to the 2016 experimental campaign, have been numerically simulated with the self-consistent code COREDIV with the aim of predicting the ELM- averaged power load to the target when extrapolated to DT plasmas.

Co-deposited layers in the divertor region of JET-ILW
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2015Tungsten-coated carbon tiles from a poloidal cross-section of the divertor and several types of erosion- deposition probes from the shadowed areas in the divertor were studied using heavy ion elastic recoil detection to obtain quantitative and depth-resolved deposition patterns.

Time-resolved deposition in the remote region of the JET-ILW divertor: measurements and modelling
Physica Scripta, 2017One crucial requirement for the development of fusion power is to know where, and how much, impurities collect in the machine, and how much of the fuelling isotope tritium will be trapped therein. The most relevant information on this issue comes from the operation of the Joint European Tokamak (JET), which is the world's largest operating tokamak and ...

L-H transition studies in JET-ILW
2017Recent experiments at JET have produced new results about the L-H transition. We will present a selection here. We found the power threshold depends on H/(H+D) species concentration in a non-linear manner, with much of the variation taking place at the extremes of the mixture scan.
