Discharge of buoyant fluid jets and particle-laden jets into stratified ambient fluid
2002Extraction of petroleum from oil sands generates a vast quantity of fine tailings. A common form of tailings treatment involves discharging the tailings at an angle of minus a few degrees into a tailings pond. Tailings ponds generally have a two-layered structure involving an upper layer of clear water separated by a pycnocline from a lower layer of ...

Precipitative Growth Templated by a Fluid Jet
Langmuir, 2005Tubular growth by chemical precipitation at the interface between two fluids, a jet and its surroundings, underlies the development of such important structures as chimneys at hydrothermal vents. This growth is associated with strong thermal and/or solute gradients localized at those interfaces, and these gradients, in turn, often produce radial ...

Interactive 3D fluid jet painting
ACM SIGGRAPH 2006 Sketches on - SIGGRAPH '06, 2006We present an interactive system which allows users to create abstract paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock using three dimensional viscous fluid jets. Pollock's paintings were created by using streams of household paint to make guided, semi-random patterns on his canvas.

On the non-linear behaviour of fluid jets
International Journal of Engineering Science, 1976Abstract In this paper we consider a one-dimensional theory for the flow of fluid jets, formulated with the help of one-dimensional postulates. The theory is applied to a circular cylindrical jet of incompressible viscous fluid with constant pressure and constant surface tension over its surface.

A case of jet flow of a gravity fluid
Fluid Dynamics, 1976The problem of plane steady ideal heavy fluid flow bounded by an impermeable polygonal section, a curvilinear arc section, and a finite section of free surface is investigated in an exact nonlinear formulation. Hydrodynamic singularities may exist in the stream.
