Impinging Jet Atomization

2010
This chapter is an introduction to impinging jet atomizers, in which two or more jets are made to impinge on each other. High energy impingement of these jets results in the atomization of the liquid. The chapter provides the theory for the prediction of the sheet formed by the impingement of two jets, followed by estimates of droplet sizes based on ...

Computations of jet impingement on a flat surface

16th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1978
Abstract : An incompressible, inviscid rotational flow model is used to represent the normal impingement of axisymmetric jets and the oblique impingement of two-dimensional jets upon a flat surface. The Poisson-type equation that results from this formulation is cast into suitable finite difference form and solved by relaxation techniques.

Orifice and Impingement Flow Fields in Confined Jet Impingement

Journal of Electronic Packaging, 1998
The flow fields in the orifice and the confinement region of a normally impinging, axisymmetric, confined, and submerged liquid jet were computationally investigated. Numerical predictions were made for orifice diameters of 3.18 and 6.35 mm at several orifice-to-target plate spacings, with turbulent jet Reynolds number ranging from 8500 to 23,000.

Impinging Jet Ignition

2018
Turbulent jet ignition can reliably be used to ignite an ultra-lean fuel/air mixture as illustrated in previous chapters. This ignition technique can be utilized in various applications ranging from pulse detonation engines, wave rotor combustor explosions, to supersonic combustors and natural gas engines. Compared to a conventional spark plug, the hot

Turbulent Flow Characteristics of Aim Impinging JET

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1972
Measurements of shear stress, turbulence energy and other parameters were made in the impingement region of a plane two-dimensional jet confined between parallel walls. Hot wire anemometer arrays were used to examine the turbulance levels in the three directions. The object of the experiments was to make comparisons with a prediction method previously

A Numerical Study of Jet-to-Jet Impingement in a Mixing Head

1993
A numerical method has been developed to model the jet-to-jet impingement in a mixing head. The governing equations are discretized in non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates and higher-order upwinding methods are used for convection term discretization. Several problems with known solutions are used to test accuracy of the method. The results show that

Impingement of a liquid jet on an opposing gas jet

Physics of Fluids
In contrast to the existing research on the liquid jet colliding with a physical target to produce a single type of liquid sheet or bell, we used an opposing gas jet target to generate a series of diverse shapes of axisymmetric liquid films. Specifically, we experimentally investigated the outcome of a 0.4-mm diameter water jet impinging on an opposing
