Lubrication of high-speed, large bore tapered-roller bearings [PDF]
The performance of 120.65-mm- (4.75-in.-) bore tapered-roller bearings was investigated at shaft speeds up to 15,000 rpm (18,000 DN). Temperature distribution and bearing heat generation were determined as a function of shaft speed, radial and thrust ...

Abstract This article explores the marmalade machine, a mechanical device designed to slice orange peel. These niche objects were manufactured between roughly 1870 and 1938 in Britain. As a so‐called ‘labour‐saving’ gadget, the marmalade machine sliced orange peel quickly and effectively, removing the tedious process of slicing orange peel by hand ...

Operating limitations of high speed jet lubricated ball bearings [PDF]
A parametric study was performed with 120-mm bore angular-contact ball bearings having a nominal contact angle of 20 degrees. The bearings had either an inner- or an outer-race land riding cage, and lubrication was by recirculating oil jets which had ...

Evaporation-triggered microdroplet nucleation and the four life phases of an evaporating Ouzo drop
Evaporating liquid droplets are omnipresent in nature and technology, such as in inkjet printing, coating, deposition of materials, medical diagnostics, agriculture, food industry, cosmetics, or spills of liquids.

ABSTRACT Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs) have become a central tool of the European Union's (EU) new industrial policy. IPCEIs derive their peculiar name from an exemption to the general prohibition on state aid that has existed since the Treaty of Rome but has only led to the creation of a stand‐alone policy instrument in 2014.

Performance tests with a 4.75 inch bore tapered-roller bearings at high speeds [PDF]
The tapered-roller bearings were tested at speeds to 15,000 rpm which results in a cone-rib tangential velocity of 130 m/sec. (25,500 ft/min). Lubrication was applied either by jets or directly to the cone-rib, augmented with jets.

The Monetary Policy–Commodities Nexus: A Survey
ABSTRACT This survey synthesizes evidence on the bidirectional links between commodity markets and monetary policy. On the commodities‐to‐policy side, we review how shocks to energy, food, and metals pass through to inflation, inflation expectations, economic activity, and financial stability in state‐dependent ways that vary by shock type, exposure ...

A Theory of Leadership Meta‐Talk and the Talking‐Doing Gap
Abstract We identify managers' meta‐level talk about the positive purpose, meaning, and significance of their actions as an overlooked type of leadership behaviour and call it leadership meta‐talk. We outline why leadership meta‐talk is not necessarily truthful or deceptive, but selective and loosely coupled with leadership practice.
