A: Universality in Vortex Formation. B: Evaluation of Mach Wave Radiation Mechanisms in a Supersonic Jet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In this thesis two distinct features of coherent structures are investigated. In Part I a model for the pinch-off process in vortex ring formation is developed.

Design of a low-noise aeroacoustic wind tunnel facility at Brunel University [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper represents the design principle of a quiet, low turbulence and moderately high speed aeroacoustic wind tunnel which was recently commissioned at Brunel University.

Nonlinear mechanisms of sound generation in a perturbed parallel jet flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
An initial value problem with relevance to jet noise is investigated. A plane parallel jet flow is subjected to a spatially localized initial disturbance and is then left to evolve according to the two-dimensional compressible Navier–Stokes equations ...

Jet noise from instability mode interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A nonlinear interaction model is used to study sources of sound in jets. The model uses quadratic interactions of instability modes, which are obtained by solving the linear parabolized stability equations.

A study of mixing and intermittency in a coaxial turbulent jet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A large eddy simulation study of mixing and intermittency of a coaxial turbulent jet discharging into an unconfined domain has been conducted. The work aims to gain insight into the mixing and intermittency of turbulent coaxial jet configurations. The

Instability Wave Models of Turbulent Jets from Round and Serrated Nozzles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this thesis we study pressure fluctuations associated with large-scale coherent structures in turbulent round and serrated jets. Linear disturbances to the turbulent mean flow of the round jet are modeled via linear stability analysis and the ...

Design and performance of an open jet wind tunnel for aero-acoustic measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the design and performance of an open jet, blow down wind tunnel that was newly commissioned in the anechoic chamber at the ISVR, University of Southampton, UK. This wind tunnel is intended for the measurement of airfoil trailing edge

Jet Noise : 2nd Report, Effect of Shear on the Noise of a Jet

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1965
Considering the structure of turbulence in the mixing region of jets where the noise is mostly generated, the influence of the exit velocity profile (shear) on the jet-noise has been studied with the following results. Weakening the strength of shear makes the spectrum of the noise source per unit volume shift towards the lower frequency side.
