MHD Simulations of AGN Jets in a Dynamic Galaxy Cluster Medium

open access: yes, 2012
We present a pair of 3-d magnetohydrodynamical simulations of intermittent jets from a central active galactic nucleus (AGN) in a galaxy cluster extracted from a high resolution cosmological simulation.

Efficient NiOx Hole Transport Layers Enabled by Multifunctional MXenes for High‐Performance Tin‐Lead Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An efficient NiOx HTL is successfully prepared by introducing MXene as an additive without further surface modification to fabricate high‐performance FASn0.5Pb0.5I3 perovskite solar cells. The introduction of MXene contributes to improved conductivity of NiOx, better aligned at NiOx/perovskite interfaces, and enhanced quality of perovskite films ...

Jet hadronization at LHCb

open access: yes, 2019
In high energy proton-proton collisions, collimated sprays of particles, called jets, result from hard scattered quarks or gluons. Jets are copiously produced in these collisions; however, the dynamic process through which quarks and gluons, collectively

Block Copolymers: Emerging Building Blocks for Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review addresses how block copolymer (BCP) physics and rheology have led to the widespread use of BCPs in advanced additive manufacturing techniques, with particular emphasis on the untapped potential of these nanostructured materials toward achieving multi‐scale architected materials with unique, programmable material properties.

Real‐Time, Label‐Free Monitoring of Cell Behavior on a Bioelectronic Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bioelectronic nanofibrous scaffold is introduced that supports cell growth while enabling real‐time, label‐free monitoring of cellular behavior through impedance measurements. The system correlates electrical signals with cell viability and surface coverage, offering an integrated platform for studying dynamic biological processes and advancing next ...

Reconstructing jet-jet invariant masses

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1986
Limits are placed on the ability to reconstruct, from an examination of jets, the mass of W bosons that are produced in hadron-hadron collisions and decay hadronically, W→q¯q. A QCD parton-shower Monte Carlo model is used to simulate the production and decay of W bosons and it is found that jet-jet mass resolutions are limited not by experimental ...

Infrared Nanocrystals for Space Application: Hardness to Irradiations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates infrared HgTe nanocrystals under X‐ray and ion irradiation, revealing remarkable radiation hardness. It uncovers distinct degradation mechanisms and shows that the nanomaterial outperforms integrated electronics. The results position colloidal nanocrystals as promising candidates for resilient space and harsh‐environment ...

Electron-scale shear instabilities: magnetic field generation and particle acceleration in astrophysical jets

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
Strong shear flow regions found in astrophysical jets are shown to be important dissipation regions, where the shear flow kinetic energy flow is converted into electric and magnetic field energy via shear instabilities.
