DNA preserved in jetsam whale ambergris [PDF]

open access: yesBiology Letters, 2020
Abstract Jetsam ambergris, found on beaches worldwide, has always been assumed to originate as a natural product of sperm whales (Physeteroidea). However, only indirect evidence has ever been produced for this, such as the presence of whale prey remains in ambergris.

Chromatographic and spectral studies of jetsam and archived ambergris [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Product Research, 2017
We describe determination of the dichloromethane-soluble components of 12 samples of the natural product, ambergris, using capillary gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Ambergris is produced in vivo in about 1% of Sperm whales and is used in perfumery and for odour fixation.

Flotsam and Jetsam

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Army Medical Corps
The time-based piece “Flotsam and Jetsam” is a stop-motion video that refers to a beach walk and shows hundreds of collected Plastic pieces at different paces floating, appearing and disappearing on the screen. The title refers to 17th-century sailing terminology for materials or goods floating on the water after wreckage or released to lighten a ...

Glaring Invisibilities and Loud Silences in ‘The Gipsy’s Baby’ by Rosamond Lehmann

open access: yesÉtudes Britanniques Contemporaines, 2021
Rosamond Lehmann seems an unlikely candidate for the study of the voices and faces of the left-behinds since most of her novels deal with the unsatisfactory romances of women from the middle classes.

An Experimental Analysis of Lean Binary Mixture Segregation in a Continuous Liquid Fluidized Bed

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2023
This study examined the phenomenon of particle segregation in lean-phase binary mixtures, with a specific focus on the effect of particle size variations while flowing over a continuous liquid fluidized bed (LFB).

Heat Transfer in Segregated Fluidized Beds Part 1: Relation between Particle and Temperature Segregation and Dominating Heat Transfer Mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2007
In this paper, segregation characteristics of fluidized particles, which were the mixture of two kinds of grains having different densities and sizes, and the temperature distributions within them were experimentally examined.

Study of Pressure Drop in the 2D Spouted Bed with Conical Base of Binary Particle Mixtures: Effects of Particle Size and Density [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2018
In this study, the pressure drop for the binary mixtures of particles differing in size and density in a pseudo-2D spouted bed was experimentally studied.
