People enjoy engaging with music. In the current study, we assessed engagement in a live concert setting using synchrony of cardiorespiratory measures. As engagement might be enhanced in a concert setting by seeing musicians perform, we presented audiences with audio‐only and audio‐visual piano performances.

Neural encoding of melodic expectations in music across EEG frequency bands. [PDF]

We re‐analysed the band‐passed EEG (top right) from subjects who listened to music using multivariate temporal response functions (mTRF). Melodic expectation metrics beyond acoustics (top left) enhanced EEG reconstruction accuracy in all frequency bands below the gamma band (< 30 Hz).
