Population dynamics of Townsend's big‐eared bats: effect of age and drought on survival

The Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We estimated age‐specific yearly survival of female Townsend's big‐eared bats in Inyo and Mono Counties, California. We found that both juvenile and adult survival were negatively impacted by drought, and that detection probability was lower for hand‐recapture than for bats detected via pass‐through antenna arrays.

Quantifying Dehydration Effects of Porcine Vocal Fold Attenuation With Optical Coherence Tomography

The Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The purpose of this study is to use optical coherence tomography (OCT) to characterize the effect of dehydration on the optical attenuation coefficient of porcine vocal fold (VF) tissue. The optical attenuation coefficient tissue decreased linearly with dehydration, dropping by approximately 0.08 mm−1 for every 1% increase in mass loss.
