Binary relations, interval structures and join spaces

An interval structure can be represented by a binary relation. A hyperoperation is defined on a set equipped with a binary relation. In this paper the hyperstructures based on the related interval structures are studied. Some necessary and sufficient conditions on these hyperstructures to be hypergroups, join spaces and \(H_v\)-groupoids are obtained.

The author [in Proceedings of the fifth international congress on Algebraic hyperstructures and applications, Iaşi, Romania, 1993, Hadronic Press, 45-52 (1994; Zbl 0847.20065)] showed how to associate some hypergroups (particularly join spaces) with a fuzzy set. In this paper this correspondence is analysed in detail for some important cases.
