Discrete Approximations of Joint Probability Distributions

1991
Practical computational limits for stochastic decision analysis models often require that probability distributions have a modest number of points with positive mass. This paper develops an approach to constructing such discrete joint probability distributions which introduces less bias than more commonly used methods.

Joint Probability Distributions and Their Applications

2014
In Chaps. 2 and 3, we studied probability models for a single random variable. Many problems in probability and statistics lead to models involving several random variables simultaneously. For example, we might consider randomly selecting a college student and defining X = the student’s high school GPA and Y = the student’s college GPA. In this chapter,

Joint Probability Distributions for Two Random Variables

2020
In the previous two chapters, we discussed univariate random variables and properties of their probability distributions. Many statistical settings, however, involve more than a single variable. In this chapter, we introduce the concept of joint probability distributions for two or more random variables associated with the same experimental setting and

Joint Fuzzy Probability Distributions

2003
This Chapter generalizes Chapters 4 and 8 to multivariable fuzzy probability distributions. Since the discrete case and the continuous case are similar, just interchange summation and integrals symbols, we only present the continuous case in Section 10.2. Applications are in the next Chapter. The continuous case is based on [1].

Pauli Equation for a Joint Tomographic Probability Distribution

Journal of Russian Laser Research, 2015
We introduce the positive vector optical tomogram fully describing the quantum states of spin-1/2 particles without any redundancy. Correspondingly, we introduce the vector symplectic tomogram and vector quasidistributions (Wigner, Husimi, and Glauber–Sudarshan vector functions).

Joint probability and conditional distribution of twin beams

2003 European Quantum Electronics Conference. EQEC 2003 (IEEE Cat No.03TH8665), 2003
Joint probability and conditional distribution of twin beams generated by an optical parametric oscillator is reported. We select the photon number fluctuation (intensity fluctuation) as our measured variable. In direct detection with a photodetector, given the high detection efficiency, the photocurrent fluctuation is corresponding to the photon ...

Joint probability distribution of composite quantum systems

International Journal of Theoretical Physics, 1987
We determine the joint probability distribution for two observables attached to two systems in weak interaction, by minimizing the entropic measure of interdependence subject to constraints given by marginal expected values and by the correlation coefficient between the two observables.

Joint probability distributions for disordered 1D wires

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1992
The scattering of a one-dimensional disordered wire consisting of elastic, time-reversal-invariant scatterers, is specified completely by the transmission intensity T, reflection phase phi r and transmission phase phi t. The problem of extracting the joint distribution p1 to Lz(T, phi r, phi t) of these variables for a system of large length Lz, given ...
