Mitigating Compensatory Movements in Prosthesis Users via Adaptive Collaborative Robotics [PDF]
Prosthesis users can regain partial limb functionality, however, full natural limb mobility is rarely restored, often resulting in compensatory movements that lead to discomfort, inefficiency, and long-term physical strain. To address this issue, we propose a novel human-robot collaboration framework to mitigate compensatory mechanisms in upper-limb ...

A Phase Variable Approach for Improved Rhythmic and Non-Rhythmic Control of a Powered Knee-Ankle Prosthesis [PDF]
Although there has been recent progress in control of multi-joint prosthetic legs for rhythmic tasks such as walking, control of these systems for non-rhythmic motions and general real-world maneuvers is still an open problem. In this article, we develop a new controller that is capable of both rhythmic (constant-speed) walking, transitions between ...

A novel concept for the manufacture of individual sapphire-metallic hip joint endoprostheses. [PDF]
At the present time, artificial joints made with metallic, ceramic, metal-polymeric or ceramicpolymeric friction pairs substituting for the natural biomechanic articulations "head of the hip joint-acetabulum" are widely used for endoprosthetic ...

Expanding the Tyrosine Kinase Domain of CSF1R? A Case Report From an Adult‐Onset Leukoencephalopathy
ABSTRACT Adult‐onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (ALSP), also termed hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy with spheroids‐1 (HDLS1), results from mutations in the CSF1R gene and leads to progressive leukoencephalopathy.

Widening participation in outward student mobility: Successes, challenges and opportunities
Abstract This article utilises data obtained through evaluation processes at Northumbria University to contribute to the emerging discourse on widening participation and outward student mobility. The rationale behind the study stems from the significant financial and non‐financial benefits associated with higher education and the UK's ongoing efforts ...

Sensor Fusion for Predictive Control of Human-Prosthesis-Environment Dynamics in Assistive Walking: A Survey [PDF]
This survey paper concerns Sensor Fusion for Predictive Control of Human-Prosthesis-Environment Dynamics in Assistive Walking. The powered lower limb prosthesis can imitate the human limb motion and help amputees to recover the walking ability, but it is still a challenge for amputees to walk in complex environments with the powered prosthesis ...

Neural electrodes for brain‐computer interface system: From rigid to soft
Here, we review the development trends of neural electrodes in BCI. This paper highlights the critical role of electrodes in BCI systems, analyzes the limitations of rigid electrodes, and introduces various flexible electrodes. Furthermore, we discuss application scenarios and prospects of BCI electrode technology, aiming to provide valuable references

Design, Implementation and Evaluation of a Variable Stiffness Transradial Hand Prosthesis [PDF]
We present the design, implementation, and experimental evaluation of a low-cost, customizable, easy-to-use transradial hand prosthesis capable of adapting its compliance. Variable stiffness actuation (VSA) of the prosthesis is based on antagonistically arranged tendons coupled to nonlinear springs driven through a Bowden cable-based power transmission.
