Elements of hip joint prosthesis reliability

Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 1977
The performance of a total hip prosthesis is considered in terms of reliability. The causes requiring removal of the prosthesis are considered and methods of avoiding these difficulties are outlined. It is pointed out that most attention must be focused on the areas of low reliability.

Comparison of 2 temporomandibular joint total joint prosthesis systems

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2003
The study goal was to evaluate the comparative outcomes of patients treated with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) total joint prostheses, using either the Christensen prosthesis (TMJ Inc, Golden, CO) (CP) or the TMJ Concepts prosthesis (TMJ Concepts Inc, Camarillo, CA; formerly Techmedica Inc) (TP).Forty-five consecutive patients treated with either CP or

Cellular basis for failure of joint prosthesis

Bio-Medical Materials and Engineering, 1996
In recent times, loosening of joint prosthesis resulting in failure, is of grave concern to orthopedicians. It is estimated that 50% of total hip replacements become loose after 15 years, and most of them require either revision surgery or resection orthoplasty.

Prototype of glenohumeral joint for use as prosthesis

2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE), 2013
The aim of this paper is focused on the use of a mathematic model, similar to the glenohumeral joint system, to develop a dimensional analysis of this, in order to get mechanical parameters and, based in the results, we implement a shoulder prosthesis prototype. The mechanical model is based on a simplification of the musculoskeletal shoulder.

Total Knee Joint Replacement Prosthesis

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1971
Summary In summary, we feel that the total replacement knee joint prosthesis deserves a permanent place in the armamentarium of the reconstructive surgeon. Instability due to combined femoral and tibial articular destruction is the indication for the procedure.

Biomechanical Modeling of Hip Joint Prosthesis

World Tribology Congress III, Volume 2, 2005
In this work a Bombelli cementless isoelastic RM total hip prosthesis was considered. It was implanted over a course of 14 years on the patient and studied subsequently to its chirurgical replacement. Computed Tomography, radiographies and 3-D laser scanning were used to assess the prosthesis geometry, while the original femur anatomy was modeled based

Design considerations in a rolamite knee joint prosthesis

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1973
AbstractProblems encountered with existing total knee prostheses are briefly summarized. Existing prosthesis designs giving anatomically correct relative planar motion between femur and tibia are reviewed. A design incorporating a Rolamite suspension is proposed and evaluated.

Replacement of the trapeziometacarpal joint with a cemented (Caffinière) prosthesis

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1989
Between 1978 and 1985, 31 Caffinière prostheses were implanted in the first carpometacarpal joints of 28 patients for treatment of degenerative osteoarthritis (26 patients) or rheumatoid arthritis (2 patients). At follow-up an average of 48 (13 to 77) months after operation, four hands had reoperation, with the replacement of six components, five cups ...

Histiocytic Lymphadenitis Associated with a Large Joint Prosthesis

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1993
Distinctive microscopic findings in enlarged axillary lymph nodes removed during modified radical mastectomy in a 76-year-old woman with a previous ipsilateral total shoulder joint replacement are described. The sinuses of the lymph nodes were distended by numerous large macrophages that had abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm.

Trapeziectomy With Ligament Reconstruction and Tendon Interposition Versus a Trapeziometacarpal Prosthesis for the Treatment of Thumb Basal Joint Osteoarthritis.

Orthopedics, 2017
Numerous surgical procedures have been described to treat trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis, but no approach is currently considered superior. Good long-term outcomes have been reported with multiple procedures.
