Advances in Magnesium‐Based Thermoelectrics: A Critical Review
Magnesium‐based thermoelectric materials have emerged as promising candidates for low‐to‐mid‐temperature energy conversion due to their abundance, low cost, and competitive performance. This review summarizes recent advances in Mg3X2, MgAgSb, and Mg2X systems, covering transport mechanisms, fabrication strategies, stability challenges, and device ...

Experimental studies of scale effects on shear strength, and deformation of rock joints [PDF]
The effect of scale on shear strength is studied by performing direct shear tests on different sized samples of large joints. A rubber moulding system is used to obtain impressions of the roughness from a variety of natural joint surfaces.

Method for preparing artificial columnar jointed rock mass specimens by using 3D printing technology
Taking regular hexagonal columnar jointed rock mass as an object, a method for preparing artificial columnar jointed rock mass specimens is proposed based on 3D printing technology.

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Considerations for Discrete Element Modeling of Rock Cutting [PDF]
This study attempts to build a framework within the Discrete Element Method (DEM) to produce a reliable predictive tool in rock cutting applications, such that the cutting forces and fragmentation process are reasonably estimated. The study is limited to

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Jointed rock masses as metamaterials – Implications for railway tunnel vibrations
Vibrations from underground railways are known to affect receptors located close to the tunnel. Understanding the transmission pathway between these tunnels and receptors is important in determining the magnitude of vibrations which can be transmitted ...

Energy dissipation of rock specimens under high strain rate with single joint in SHPB tensile tests
The energy dissipation in single jointed rocks under high strain rate is investigated by the split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) technique. The dynamic split tensile tests on both intact granite specimens and man-made single jointed granite specimens ...
