Single-Shot Jones Matrix Microscopy

2021
Field based polarization measurement is essential to understand and quantify the optical response of any target sample. The method discussed here is digital holography microscopy (Yang et al. in Opt. Express 24:25, 2016, [1]) that enables us to quantify spatially the Jones Matrix of a transparent anisotropic sample.

Jones Matrix Formalism for Quasioptical EPR

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2000
The Jones matrix formalism that has been used to analyze quasioptical millimeter-wave circuits is extended for specific application to high-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). A survey of general expressions for Jones matrices of elements commonly used in quasioptical EPR spectrometers is given.

Jones matrix of polarization mode dispersion

Optics Letters, 1999
We describe how to calculate the Jones matrix transfer function of a fiber if its principal states of polarization and its differential group delay as functions of frequency are known. Using two counterexamples related to second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD), we also show that a previous method used for the same purpose induces ...

Extended Jones matrix method II

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1993
We derive an extended Jones matrix method to treat the transmission of light through birefringent networks, where the incident angle of light and the optical axis of the birefringent media are arbitrary. As an example, we employ the method to analyze the leakage problem of a twisted nematic liquid-crystal display and to suggest its possible solutions ...

One-step Jones matrix polarization holography for extraction of spatially resolved Jones matrix of polarization-sensitive materials

Optics Letters, 2014
We propose, for the first time to our knowledge, a method for realizing one-step measurement of two-dimensional Jones matrix parameters of polarization-sensitive materials. This method could be called one-step Jones matrix polarization holography (JMPH). Our theoretical analysis and the experimental results demonstrate that a double-source polarization

Extended Jones matrix method

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1982
An extended Jones matrix method is derived for treating the transmission of off-axis light through birefringent networks. Neglecting multiple reflections, this matrix algebra includes the effect of Fresnel reflection and refraction at the crystal-plate surfaces.

Jones matrix for second-order polarization mode dispersion

Optics Letters, 2000
A Jones matrix is constructed for a fiber that exhibits first- and second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD). It permits the modeling of pulse transmission for fibers whose PMD vectors have been measured or whose statistics have been determined by established PMD theory. The central portion of our model is a correction to the Bruyère model.

Jones matrix for image-rotation prisms

Applied Optics, 2004
The polarization-transforming properties of rotational prisms are analyzed with polarized light by using the Jones calculus and the exact ray-trace. A general expression of the Jones matrix for a rotational prism is derived, incorporating an explicit dependence on the image-rotation angle or the wave-front-rotation angle.

Jones matrix imaging using cyclic lateral shearing interferometry

Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2022 (FIO, LS), 2022
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a polarization driven lateral shearing interferometric technique for Jones matrix imaging of anisotropic samples. The feasibility of the proposed technique is tested by measuring the Jones matrix of an optical retarder in double shot.

Jones transfer matrix for polarization mode dispersion fibers

LEOS 2000. 2000 IEEE Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings. 13th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 2000 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37080), 2002
With the advent of long distance high bit rate optical systems, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) has become an important source of limitation for the system performance. In a first order approximation, PMD, that is described by a differential group delay (DGD) between two orthogonal states of polarization (PSPs), causes an undesired output pulse ...
