A Magnetic Journal Bearing

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1968
This report is related to the development of a magnetic journal bearing which can support a rotating shaft without any mechanical contact. A complete levitation is successfully achieved by means of a combination of permanent magnets and servo-controlled electromagnets. The principle and the characteristics of this bearing are as follows.

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Rheumatologic Manifestations of Patients With Type B Insulin Resistance

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objectives of this study were to identify laboratory and clinical features associated with type B insulin resistance (TBIR), a rare condition caused by autoantibodies that inhibit the insulin receptor, most frequently occurring in the setting of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to increase awareness of this rare, life‐threatening ...

Elastohydrodynamic analysis of multistep texture effects and partial surface roughness on the tribological performance of steel journal bearings

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
Journal bearings are critical components designed to facilitate the smooth and consistent rotation of shafts around specific axes. To meet the demands for efficient and cost-effective applications in high-speed machinery, it is imperative to enhance the ...

Turbulence Effects in Tilting Pad Journal Bearings: A Review

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
This paper reviews the current knowledge on turbulence effects in tilting pad journal bearings. Turbulence is becoming increasingly important in the design of hydrodynamic bearings due to the trend to increase power density in turbomachines and ...

Maximizing Minimum Pressure in Fluid Dynamic Bearings of Hard Disk Drives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We focus on the central spindle which supports the rotating magnetic platters which hold all of the data. The spindle must operate with great precision and stability at high rotational speeds.

The effect of the lubricated revolute joint parameters and hydrodynamic force models on the dynamic response of planar multibody systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this work a comprehensive methodology for dynamic modeling and analysis of planar multibody systems with lubricated revolute joints is presented. In general, this type of mechanical systems includes journal-bearings in which the load varies in both ...

Prevalence of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Australia, 2010–2022: A Population‐Based Study Using Linked National Administrative Health Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogenous inflammatory condition with widely varying global prevalence estimates. The frequency of SLE in the general population of Australia has been reported to be notably lower than contemporary estimates in countries such as the United States or United Kingdom, at 19 to 39 per 100,000 as opposed ...
