Nuclear quantum confinement enables robust deuterium bonds for highly reversible aluminum anodes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) fundamentally limits aluminum electroreduction in aqueous electrolytes by dominating interfacial charge transfer. Here, we suppress HER by engineering deuterium bonds (D‐bonds) through nuclear quantum effects, confining D between D₂O and DMF molecules.

Unsaturated Phosphine Oxides for Modular Antibody Rebridging and Single Reagent Peptide‐Cyclisation‐Bioconjugation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Achieving modular, selective and homogeneous protein modifications is of utmost importance for the design of next generation biopharmaceuticals; especially in the context of antibody‐drug conjugates (ADCs). Here, we introduce unsaturated phosphine oxides as versatile triple‐reactive reagents, allowing orthogonal chemoselective bioconjugation schemes ...

Selective electrochemical production of ethylene from bicarbonate solution

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
In this work, we report an engineered material structuring to selectively produce C2+ products with high FE directly from a N2‐saturated bicarbonate solution. Multiphysics modeling studies reveal the critical role of local current density distribution and the spatio‐selective evolution of C2+ products, which is favored in thinner catalysts (240 µm ...

Sulfur Mediated Interfacial Proton‐Directed Transfer Boosts Electrocatalytic Nitric Oxide Reduction to Ammonia over Dual‐site Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Electrocatalytic nitric oxide reduction reaction (NORR) for ammonia (NH3) synthesis represents a sustainable strategy that simultaneously realizes the nitrogen cycle and resource integration. The key issue hindering the NORR efficiency is accelerating proton (*H) transfer to facilitate NO hydrogenation while inhibiting hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).
