Juggling Functions Inside a Database

open access: yes, 2017
We define and study the Functional Aggregate Query (FAQ) problem, which captures common computational tasks across a very wide range of domains including relational databases, logic, matrix and tensor computation, probabilistic graphical models ...

Orbiting binary black hole evolutions with a multipatch high order finite-difference approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present numerical simulations of orbiting black holes for around twelve cycles, using a high-order multipatch approach. Unlike some other approaches, the computational speed scales almost perfectly for thousands of processors.

Juggling Probabilities

open access: yesThe American Mathematical Monthly, 2005
The act of a person juggling can be viewed as a Markov process if we assume that the juggler throws to random heights. I make this association for the simplest reasonable model of random juggling and compute the steady state probabilities in terms of the Stirling numbers of the second kind. I also explore several alternate models of juggling.

Asymmetric Adaptability to Temporal Constraints Among Coordination Patterns Differentiated at Early Stages of Learning in Juggling

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
In this study, we examined the degree of adaptability to new constraints after learning of a fundamental skill in juggling. Adaptation of sensorimotor synchronization with the various constraints is important for expertise. However, this adaptability may

Toss and Spin Juggling State Graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We review the state approach to toss juggling and extend the approach to spin juggling, a new concept. We give connections to current research on random juggling and describe a professional-level juggling performance that further demonstrates the state ...

‘The Other Parent’: A Critical Policy Analysis of Fatherhood Discourses in the Australian Government's Paid Parental Leave Scheme

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Australian paid parental leave (PPL) government scheme aims to support working parents through financial assistance and the promotion of gender equality in caregiving responsibilities. However, the scheme's implementation has been critiqued for its gendered design, which marginalises fathers and reinforces traditional gender roles.

‘I Don't Babysit’: Stay‐at‐Home Dads' Perspectives and Experiences Within Australian Society

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Stay‐at‐home‐dads are an emerging group in Australia, impacted by societal assumptions and expectations. However, there is a scarcity of research on the perspectives and experiences of fathers assuming stay‐at‐home dad roles within Australian society.

Housing as Asset‐Based Welfare in Australia: An Investigation Through a Consumption Lens

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Housing asset‐based welfare has long been a key component of Australia's social policy. This resonates with a parallel literature identifying a trade‐off between homeownership and the size of nations' welfare states, wherein owner‐occupiers in smaller welfare states tend to come to rely on housing wealth to meet many of their welfare needs ...

The juggling paradigm: a novel social neuroscience approach to identify neuropsychophysiological markers of team mental models

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Since the discovery of the mirror neuron system in the 1990s, little, if any, research has been devoted to the study of interactive motor tasks (Goldman, 2012).
