The Vietnamese swine as a translational model of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The flow diagram outlines the chemical induction of breast tumors through a single intraperitoneal dose of MNU. Tumor development was assessed using ultrasound and clinical examination. After 14 weeks, mammary tissue was collected and histologically analyzed to evaluate structural similarities between sows and humans, the carcinogenic potential of MNU,

Circadian and Ultradian Rhythms of Free Glucocorticoid Hormone Are Highly Synchronized between the Blood, the Subcutaneous Tissue, and the Brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Total glucocorticoid hormone levels in plasma of various species, including humans, follow a circadian rhythm that is made up from an underlying series of hormone pulses. In blood most of the glucocorticoid is bound to corticosteroid-binding globulin and

Bilateral carotid‐jugular arteriovenous graft implantation in an ovine model is safe and durable for facilitation of arteriovenous graft innovation

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Eight sheep underwent bilateral carotid‐jugular AVG implantation. The AVGs were surveilled with duplex ultrasound at regular intervals for 6 months, at which point they were imaged fluoroscopically and explanted for gross and histologic evaluation. Primary patency of control grafts was 75% at 6 months and there were no major complications.

Gene Transfer of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Inhibits Macrophages and Inflammatory Mediators in Vein Graft Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Vein graft disease is a chronic inflammatory disease and limits the late results of coronary revascularization. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) inhibits macrophages infiltrated and inflammatory mediators, we hypothesized that transfected CGRP gene

Development of the occipitopetrosal junctions: A histological study using human fetuses

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The temporal bone petrosa is connected to the occipital bone at two sites: one junction with the basilar part (medial junction) and another with the lateral part (lateral junction). Using histological specimens from 45 human fetuses (approximately 7–39 weeks of gestational age or GA), we aimed to describe possible changes in histology and ...
