Jump takeoff in a small jumping spider [PDF]
Jumping in animals presents an interesting locomotory strategy as it requires the generation of large forces and accurate timing. Jumping in arachnids is further complicated by their semi-hydraulic locomotion system. Among arachnids, jumping spiders (Family Salticidae) are agile and dexterous jumpers.

This paper introduces and studies jumping grammars, which represent a grammatical counterpart to the recently introduced jumping automata. These grammars are conceptualized just like classical grammars except that during the applications of their productions, they can jump over symbols in either direction within the rewritten strings.

Nearly 40 years ago atomic tests were being carried out’ during which servicemen were exposed to atomic radiation with little or no understanding of the implications’. It is one of these tests, the Mosaic Operations of 1956 off the coast of Australia, that Captain Gower relates here.

Jump linear quadratic regulator with controlled jump rates
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2001Summary: This note deals with the class of continuous-time linear systems with Markovian jumps. We assume that the jump rates are controlled. Our purpose is to study the jump linear quadratic regulator for this class of systems. The structure of the optimal controller is established.

An earlier paper (Howe 1967) considered a non-linear theory of open-channel steady flow of deep water past a slowly modulated wavy wall. The wave pattern on the free surface of the water was obtained as the solution of a stably posed elliptic Cauchy problem, the main feature of the solution being the appearance of a ‘shock’ across which there is an ...

This paper introduces Jump, a prototype computer vision-based system that transforms paper-based architectural documents into tangible query interfaces. Specifically, Jump allows a user to obtain additional information related to a given architectural document by framing a portion of the drawing with physical brackets.
