Uterine Junctional Zone and Endometrial Cancer

Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, 2009
PURPOSE: The human uterus consists of the ontogenetically and phylogenetically older endometrium, the adjacent junctional zone and the more recent outer myometrium. This understanding of uterine zonal anatomy could provide an answer to the question why the risk of lymph node metastasis increases abruptly when an endometrial adenocarcinoma invades more ...

Separation Zone at Open‐Channel Junctions

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1984
The configuration of open-channel junctions controls local sedimentary processes, channel scour, and sidewall erosion through its influence on the flow patterns established as confluent streams compete for limited channel capacity. Entry of a tributary into a mainstream ensures detachment of flow from the channel sidewall immediately downstream from ...

CLASSIFICATION AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF GEOGRAPHIC ATROPHY JUNCTIONAL ZONE USING SPECTRAL DOMAIN OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

Retina, 2017
Purpose: The junctional zone at the border of areas of geographic atrophy (GA) in eyes with nonneovascular age-related macular degeneration is an important target region for future therapeutic strategies.

Special Anatomical Zone: Craniocervical Junction Tumors

2020
Tumors of the craniovertebral junction tumors (CVJ) remain a significant challenge, given the anatomic complexity of the region. A thorough clinical examination, interpretation of radiographic imaging, understanding of the regional anatomy, obtaining histologic diagnosis, and establishing the goals of surgery are necessary to provide the best outcomes.

The Rectosigmoid Junction Zone: Another Sphincter?

1981
The junctional areas between the different parts of the gastrointestinal tract are usually defined by valves or sphincters. This rule is almost universal, in so far as there is the cardiac sphincter between the oesophagus and the stomach, the pyloric sphincter between the stomach and the duodenum, and the ileocaecal ‘valve’ between the terminal portion

Shear zone junctions: Of zippers and freeways

Journal of Structural Geology, 2017
Abstract Ductile shear zones are commonly treated as straight high-strain domains with uniform shear sense and characteristic curved foliation trails, bounded by non-deforming wall rock. Many shear zones, however, are branched, and if movement on such branches is contemporaneous, the resulting shape can be complicated and lead to unusual shear sense ...

Controlled failure mechanisms toughen the dentino-enamel junction zone

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2005
The dentino-enamel junction (DEJ) durably unites dissimilar hard brittle enamel and tough flexible dentin. In contrast to artificial bonds between restorations and dentin, the DEJ rarely fails except when it is affected by inherited disorders. Knowledge of DEJ toughening mechanisms is important in understanding inherited disorders, in biomimetic ...

Active zone structure‐function relationships at the neuromuscular junction

Synapse, 2018
AbstractThe impact of presynaptic transmitter release site organization on synaptic function has been a vibrant area of research for synaptic physiologists. Because there is a highly nonlinear relationship between presynaptic calcium influx and subsequent neurotransmitter release at synapses, the organization and density of calcium sources (voltage ...

Silicone-foam molding of the canine ileocolonic junctional zone

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1967
Molds of the isolated ileocolonic junctional area were made in 61 dogs (2 conscious, 6 anesthetized, and 53 immediately after death) by the forceful injection into the proximal colon of a mixture of expanding silicone-foam rubbers. An annular constriction (mean width 0.83 cm. S.E.M. ±.067, mean length 0.40 cm. S.E.M.

Pressure studies of the ileocolonic junctional zone of dogs

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1965
This investigation was undertaken to define the pressure profile of the canine ileocolonic junctional segment and to determine whether a zone of increased pressure exists between the ileum and colon. In four adult dogs, the area was made accessible by bringing ileal and colonic stomas to the abdominal wall.
