Play types, geologic characteristics and exploration domains of lithological reservoirs in China

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2016
By dissecting thirty-six representative oil-gas reservoirs and analyzing accumulation conditions of giant oil and gas provinces in four prototype basins, including the Songliao Rift and Depression Basin, the Mesozoic Ordos Depression Basin, the Bohai Bay

Intensification of Northern Hemisphere Glaciation Triggered the Red Clay to Loess‐Paleosol Shift on the Chinese Loess Plateau 2.7 Million Years Ago

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 4, 28 February 2026.
Abstract Widespread aeolian loess‐paleosol and red clay sediments on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) provide a globally unique terrestrial archive of Neogene–Quaternary climate. However, the timing and associated mechanisms of red clay to loess‐paleosol shift remain debated.

Petroleum generation kinetics for Permian lacustrine source rocks in the Junggar Basin, NW China

open access: yes, 2016
The Junggar Basin is a major oil producing province in China. Most of the oil originated from Permian lacustrine oil-prone source rocks in the basin. Kinetic parameters for oil and gas generation were obtained from confined pyrolysis experiments using ...

Precipitation mechanism of anhydrite cement in lacustrine tight sandstone: Implications for fluid activity, mass transfer and pore origin of open diagenetic system in tight sandstone

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
This paper discusses a new model concerning the precipitation mechanismand significance of anhydrite cement in tight sandstone. Anhydrite cement ismainly formed by the dissolution and reprecipitation of early‐diageneticcalcite cements, feldspars and volcanic rock fragments at the mesodiageneticstage.

Long‐Term Snow Avalanche Trends in High Mountain Asia: Climatic Drivers and Impacts

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Devastating snow avalanches are frequent in High Mountain Asia (HMA) yet remain undocumented with climate change impact drivers poorly understood. Here we introduce the first record of 60 million avalanche deposits across 10,701 small catchments, compiled from 33 years of Landsat data from 1990 until 2022 using a snow index.

Lower to Middle Jurassic shallow-water delta types in the southern Junggar Basin and implications for the tectonic and climate

open access: yes, 2016
Shallow-water lacustrine delta sandstone in large continental sag basins have become the most important target for the stratigraphic reservoirs. The Junggar Basin was a continental sag basin in the Mesozoic.

The first record of an ornithomimosaur from the Lower Cretaceous Tugulu Group of the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, China

open access: yes, 2021
Here we report the discovery of a non-avian theropod manus claw and various closely associated caudal vertebrae from a Lower Cretaceous exposure of the Tugulu Group, in the Junggar Basin.

Divergent Nutrient Resorption Strategies in C4 Desert Shrubs: Stoichiometric Evidence From Assimilative Branches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
We assessed interspecific differences in nutrient resorption efficiencies (N, P, K) of assimilative branches in three Calligonum species from the Junggar Desert. The results revealed distinct nutrient resorption strategies and scaling relationships among species, closely linked to both internal nutrient status and environmental factors.

Astronomical forcing on loess deposition in the Junggar Basin since the late Pliocene

open access: yes, 2023
Deciphering dust outbreak frequency in inland Asia during the late Cenozoic is important for predicting the future hydroclimate in the arid parts of China. Here, we present an eolian sedimentary sequence in the southern Junggar Basin over the past 3.5

Key Drilling Technologies for Ultra-Deep Well Zheng 10 in Junggar Basin

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2023
The strata below the Qingshuihe Formation in the Junggar Basin are found with high uncertainty, low drillability and complicated pressure system, which severely restrains the progress of exploration and development by deep exploration wells in the lower ...
