A field experiment on the reproductive success of the invasive clam Mya arenaria (Bivalvia) in the Tagus estuary: coexistence with the native clam Scrobicularia plana

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2011
A three month field experiment with tidal level (upper, middle, lower) and treatment (excavated and not excavated plots) as categorical experimental factors showed that the invasive clam Mya arenaria has reached a more advanced stage in the invasion ...

Use of the robust design to estimate seasonal abundance and demographic parameters of a coastal bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) population. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
As delphinid populations become increasingly exposed to human activities we rely on our capacity to produce accurate abundance estimates upon which to base management decisions.

Columbia River plume fronts. II. Distribution, abundance, and feeding ecology of juvenile salmon [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2005
Well-defined fronts develop at the seaward edge of riverine plumes where suspended materials and planktonic organisms are concentrated by convergent water flows. Riverine plume fronts have been hypothesized to be favorable fish habitats because they can lead to localized prey aggregations.

Profiling Localized Immunomodulation and Drug Biodistribution within a Subcutaneous Vascularized Niche for Cell Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We studied how five common immunosuppressants behave when delivered directly to a transplant site instead of systemically. Using a vascularized implant for islet transplantation, we show that local delivery protects grafts, limits drug spread to the rest of the body, and produces distinct immune signatures.

Oil‐Coated Nanoplastics Induce Rapid Membrane Disruption and Severe Intestinal Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oil‐rich food contact dramatically amplifies MNP release from plastic takeout containers, producing oil‐coated nanoplastics with altered surface properties and rapid membrane‐disruptive effects. These particles cause severe intestinal barrier damage and immune dysfunction in mice, and risk modeling suggests that long‐term gastrointestinal burdens may ...

Distribution, Abundance, Status, and Phytogeography of Log Ferns (Dryopteris: Woodsiaceae) in Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A study of the distribution, abundance, status, and phytogeography of the six taxa of Log Ferns {Dryopteris: Woodsiaceae) that are known to occur in Arkansas was conducted from 1981 -1986. Five of these ferns are generally quite rare in Arkansas.
