Turbulent transition simulation using thek-ω model

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1998
Summary: We describe a novel approach in simulating laminar-to-turbulent transition by using two-equation models. The total stresses limitation concept is used to make the two-equation model capable of predicting high-Reynolds-number transitional flow.

Cascade-flow calculations using the k-omega turbulence model with explicit-implicit solver

AIAA Journal, 1997
A four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme, which is a typical explicit method, is adopted to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. An implicit approximate factorization scheme, which can be solved by a tridiagonal matrix solver, is developed.

A numerical investigation of the turbulent flow around a scale model JBC hull using the Generalized k-omega (GEKO) turbulence model

2019
In this investigation, qualitative comparisons with experimentally obtained PIV data from a scale-model wind tunnel facility are made with numerical solutions obtained using CFD for the Japan Bulk Carrier (JBC) geometry. Distributions of relevant quantities such as local velocity, local vorticity and local turbulence quantities at specific locations in

Application of a New Roughness Extension for k − ω Turbulence Models

2010
The roughness extension of Knopp, Eisfeld and Calvo (KEC) [4] for k – ω type turbulence models has been applied to the flow through rough pipes, over a flat plate and around the NACA 652-215 airfoil with a rough surface. The results are compared to predictions using the boundary condition originally devised by Wilcox [11] for rough surfaces, and to ...

Analysis of Supersonic Turbulent Boundary Layers Over Rough Surfaces Using the K-Omega and Stress-Omega Models

Volume 2: Fora, 2005
In this study, the influence of surface roughness in the prediction of the mean flow and turbulent properties of a high-speed supersonic (M = 2.9, Re/m = 2.0e7) turbulent boundary layer flow over a flat plate is performed using the k-ω and the stress-ω models.

A new extension for k– turbulence models to account for wall roughness

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2009
Abstract This paper presents a new extension for k– ω turbulence models to account for surface roughness for transitionally and fully rough surfaces. It is based on the equivalent sand grain approach and accounts for theoretical considerations on the log-layer solution for fully rough surfaces.
