U.S. Navy Rolls-Royce Allison 501-K34 Operating Experience
Volume 1: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Turbomachinery; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 2000The Rolls-Royce Allison (RRA) 501-K34 serves as the prime mover for the Ship Service Gas Turbine Generator sets (SSGTGs) of the U.S. Navy’s DDG-51 Class ships. Navy experience with the 501-K34 began in 1988 with the testing of the first prototype. Experience to date includes over 700,000 fired hours on a growing fleet of engines.

United States Navy 501-K34 Gas Turbine Engine RADCON Effort
Volume 1: Aircraft Engine; Fans and Blowers; Marine, 2015On the afternoon of March 11, 2011 at 2:46pm, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake took place 231 miles northeast of Tokyo, Japan, at a depth of 15.2 miles. The earthquake caused a tsunami with 30 foot waves that damaged several nuclear reactors in the area. It was the fourth largest earthquake on record (since 1900) and the largest to hit Japan.

The aerospace industry is using composite materials for numerous components and structures. Many of these components require machining during its fabrication. Drilling of composite materials is difficult to carry out due to damage being introduced into the component in the form of delamination, fiber pullout, and local cracks.

The Study focused on design and development of solid carbide step drill K34 to drill holes on composite materials such as Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP). The step drill K34 replaces step wise drilling of diameter 6.5mm and 9 mm holes that reduces the setup time, cutting speed, feed rate cost ...

AbstractPost‐translational modifications (e.g., ubiquitylation) of histones play important roles in dynamic regulation of chromatin. Histone ubiquitylation has been speculated to directly influence the structure and dynamics of nucleosomes. However, structural information for ubiquitylated nucleosomes is still lacking.
