Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Deep Learning Models for Rotated Object Detection in Aerial Images: Survey and Performance Comparisons

open access: yesIEEE Access
Rotated object detection in aerial images presents unique challenges due to the variability in object orientation and aspect ratios. In object detection, the common practice is to use boxes to enclose the spatial locations of discovered objects ...

The energy decay in self-preserving isotropic turbulence revisited [PDF]

open access: yes
The assumption of self-preservation allows for an analytical determination of the energy decay in isotropic turbulence. Here, the self-preserving isotropic decay problem is analyzed, yielding a more complete picture of self-serving isotropic turbulence ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Limit Laws for Sums of Logarithms of k-Spacings

open access: yesEntropy
Let Z=Z1,…,Zn be an i.i.d. sample from the absolutely continuous distribution function F(z):=P(Z≤z), with density f(z):=ddzF(z). Let Z1,n<…<Zn,n be the order statistics generated by Z1,…,Zn. Let Z0,n=a:=inf{z:F(z)>0} and Zn+1,n=b:=sup{z:F(z)<1} denote the end-points of the common distribution of these observations, and assume that the ...

Toward Low‐Consumable Anodes: Process Simulation and Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of NiFe2O4‐NiO‐Ni‐Cu vs. Prebaked Anodes for Aluminum Production with use of Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐consumable nickel ferrite‐based anodes for the Hall–Héroult process are compared with conventional prebaked carbon anodes using thermodynamic simulation and prospective life cycle assessment under contrasting future electricity system pathways from 2025 to 2050.

MHD Inertial and Energy-containing Range Turbulence Anisotropy in the Young Solar Wind

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We study solar wind turbulence anisotropy in the inertial and energy-containing ranges in the inbound and outbound directions during encounters 1–9 by the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) for distances between ∼21 and 65 R _⊙ . Using the Adhikari et al. approach,
