From hindrance to indirect protection: Ant‐mediated enemy‐free space for gall midges (Cecidomyiidae) on Macaranga myrmecophytes (Euphorbiaceae)

Ant presence was associated with lower gall density on Macaranga beccariana, whereas trees lacking ant defense had more galls and showed different parasitism patterns. Results from this natural experiment suggest that plant‐ants may indirectly influence gall midges through their effects on multitrophic interactions.
