Abstract Drainage canals are potential hotspots of methane (CH4) emissions from degraded peatlands in Southeast Asia. Estimates of CH4 emissions from these canals remain scarce, and both the temporal variability and pathways of CH4 emissions are uncertain.

Digitisation of herbarium collections is bringing greater understanding to bear on the complexity of narratives relating to the First World War and its aftermath – scientific and societal. Plant collecting during the First World War was more widespread than previously understood, contributed to the psychological well‐being of those involved and ...

Summary The digitisation of plant collections is bringing large quantities of information into accessible electronic databases. However, in recent decades, traditional taxonomic work in collections has declined, meaning that more specimens are only determined to family or genus, particularly when lacking key identification structures.

Abstract The Maritime Continent (MC) has undergone rapid deforestation in recent decades, altering its land‐atmosphere energy balance. Using idealized Community Earth System Model simulations, we examined heat extremes under progressively increasing deforestation extents, from localized coastal clearing to complete forest removal.

Atmosphere‐Ocean Tendency Corrections Improve Seasonal Prediction Skill of CanESM5
Abstract This study examines impacts on prediction skill of empirically‐derived tendency corrections (TC) to climatological seasonal cycle biases in retrospective seasonal forecasts from the Canadian Earth System Model version 5 (CanESM5). A novel aspect is that TC are applied simultaneously in the modeled atmosphere and ocean, rather than to either ...

Tropical Peatland Restoration Reduces Fire Occurrence
Abstract Extensive tropical peatlands in Indonesia have been drained and deforested, leaving them highly susceptible to fire. In response to widespread fires in 2015 El Niño, large‐scale restoration schemes were implemented. While fire occurrence was dramatically reduced during 2019 and 2023 El Niño, it is not known to what extent restoration ...
