Putinism and the End of the Taboo on Land Grabs in Russian Politics: An Insight into the Territorial Aspect of the Ideology

open access: yesThe Russian Review, Volume 84, Issue 4, Page 593-611, October 2025.
Abstract Putinist ideology is not merely a project of a narrow political elite, but rather a set of ideas that hold domestic appeal. The ideologized vision of Russia fighting for its rightful place in the international arena has resonated with mass social grievances created by the fall of the USSR.

Action functional as an early warning indicator in the space of probability measures via Schrödinger bridge

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 13, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Critical transitions and tipping phenomena between two meta‐stable states in stochastic dynamical systems are a scientific issue. In this work, we expand the methodology of identifying the most probable transition pathway between two meta‐stable states with Onsager–Machlup action functional, to investigate the evolutionary transition dynamics ...

Advanced 3D Microstructure Generation of Solid Oxide Cell Electrodes Using Conditional Generative Adversarial Network and Validation Using Nonintuitive Topological Characteristics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, Volume 1, Issue 2, August 2025.
Solid oxide cells (SOCs) are promising for energy utilization and require optimized electrode microstructures. This study develops a generative adversarial network (GAN)‐based model to generate artificial SOC electrode microstructures, controlling volume fraction and specific surface area.

Examining Entropic Unbalanced Optimal Transport and Sinkhorn Divergences for Spatial Forecast Verification

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 32, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
This exploratory study establishes the unbalanced Sinkhorn divergence as a robust spatial forecast verification metric for precipitation data. It has illustrative transport vectors which highlight regions where a feature is missing and is shown to align with expert assessments amongst other favourable characteristics with few limitations.

Spatial verification of global precipitation forecasts

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Volume 151, Issue 771, July 2025 Part B.
We present an adaptation of the recently developed precipitation attribution distance (PAD) metric, designed for verifying precipitation, enabling its use on the Earth's spherical geometry. The method is fast and flexible, with its behavior analyzed using a set of idealized cases and 7 years of operational global high‐resolution precipitation forecasts.

A Novel Dual‐Network Approach for Real‐Time Liveweight Estimation in Precision Livestock Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 22, June 12, 2025.
A novel dual‐network framework is proposed for real‐time, non‐contact liveweight estimation of pigs. By extracting contour information instead of segmented images, the method achieves high accuracy (R2 = 0.993) and an exceptional speed of 1131.6 FPS. This approach enhances automation in livestock farming, providing a scalable and efficient solution for

Equal area partitions of the sphere with diameter bounds, via optimal transport

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 57, Issue 5, Page 1524-1538, May 2025.
Abstract We prove existence of equal area partitions of the unit sphere via optimal transport methods, accompanied by diameter bounds written in terms of Monge–Kantorovich distances. This can be used to obtain bounds on the expectation of the maximum diameter of partition sets, when points are uniformly sampled from the sphere.
