Adsorption of Forever Chemical Pollutants: The Physical Chemistry of PFAS Near Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current adsorption‐based remediation techniques for removing per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water are limited by knowledge gaps on PFAS behavior near solid surfaces. This review provides a state of the art on theoretical and experimental aspects of PFAS adsorption.

Natural South African iron‐rich sand as a functional catalyst in hybrid photocatalytic wet peroxide oxidation technology for the degradation of methyl orange dye pollutant

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This research explored South African iron‐rich sand (SAIRS) as a natural catalyst for light‐mediated wet peroxide oxidation of methyl orange dye in wastewater and at an optimized of conditions of 3500 mg/L catalyst dose, 6 mM H2O2, and pH 2.5, SAIRS achieved 94% methyl orange degradation within 90 min under visible light.

Experimental transformation of kaolinite to halloysite

open access: yes, 1996
A well-characterized kaolinite has been hydrated in order to test the hypothesis that platey kaolinite will roll upon hydration. Kaolinite hydrates are prepared by repeated intercalation of kaolinite with potassium acetate and subsequent washing with ...

Semi‐analytical solution for the stability of deep vertical shaft considering time‐dependent rock‐structure interaction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel cavity contraction solution and multilayer shaft wall model were developed to analyze deep shaft stability, considering rock viscosity, support structures, and water pressure, with successful validation through a Hulusu Coal Mine case study.

Mechanochemical treatment of kaolinite

open access: yes, 2001
Kaolinite surfaces were modified by mechanochemical treatment for periods of time up to 10 h. X-ray diffraction shows a steady decrease in intensity of the d(001) spacing with mechanochemical treatment, resulting in the delamination of the kaolinite and ...

Controlling and Tuning the Dispersion Properties of Calcined Kaolinite Particles in Various Organic Solvents via the Modification Method Using Triethoxyvinylsilane and 3-Mercaptopropionic Acid

open access: yesMolecules
The surface of calcined kaolinite particles underwent chemical modification using Vinyltriethoxysilane (VTMS) and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA). The grafting ratio of VTMS on the calcined kaolinite surface was adjusted by varying its quantity.

Response to applying kaolinite particles in coffee variety Cenicafé 1 seedlings during the nursery stage

open access: yesJournal of the Saudi Society of Agricultural Sciences, 2023
The application of kaolinite has been shown to be a viable strategy for protecting crops against excessive solar radiation and high temperatures. In coffee, this could occur during the nursery stage when the seedlings grow directly in full sun.
