Expert Perspective: Diagnosis and Treatment of Castleman Disease

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Summary Castleman disease (CD) is a major diagnostic challenge for Rheumatologists. Unicentric CD (UCD) involves one enlarged lymph node region whereas multicentric CD (MCD) involves multiple enlarged lymph node regions. Both UCD and MCD may exhibit a wide range of symptoms that overlap with other immune‐mediated conditions.

A case of patch stage of Kaposi’s sarcoma and discussion of the differential diagnosis

open access: yesRare Tumors, 2016
A 55-year-old HIV positive male had a skin lesion biopsy which showed atypical vascular proliferation within the superficial and deep dermis with mild atypia of lining endothelial cells.

Mutual Inhibition between Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus and Epstein-Barr Virus Lytic Replication Initiators in Dually-Infected Primary Effusion Lymphoma

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
Both Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are members of the human gamma herpesvirus family: each is associated with various human cancers. The majority of AIDS-associated primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) are co-infected with both KSHV and EBV.

Approaches to repurposing reverse transcriptase antivirals in cancer

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
This review highlights the role of reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibition in cellular regulation associated with non‐terminal repeat retrotransposons and endogenous retroviruses. Based on their pleiotropic characteristics, RT inhibitors (RTIs) are discussed as potential anticancer agents.

Kaposi’s Sarcoma Presenting as Acute Small Bowel Obstruction Diagnosed on Multidetector Computed Tomography with Histopathological Correlation

open access: yesCase Reports in Radiology, 2015
Kaposi’s sarcoma was originally described by Moritz Kaposi in 1872 as a rare form of multiple hemorrhagic skin lesions. Today it is well documented as a systemic, multifocal, steadily progressive reticuloendothelial system tumor with a predilection for ...

Kaposi´s sarcoma of the larynx: an unusual location in a HIV-negative patient case report

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2020
Head and neck involvement of Kaposi’s sarcoma is rarely encountered, especially for the Mediterranean classic subtype. Here we report a case of non-AIDS related laryngeal Kaposi’s sarcoma in a 77-year-old Tunisian man complaining of 4-month history of ...

Pomalidomide for Symptomatic Kaposi's Sarcoma in People With and Without HIV Infection: A Phase I/II Study.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Oncology, 2016
Purpose Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a multicentric tumor caused by Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus. Unmet needs include therapies that are oral, anthracycline sparing, and deliverable in resource-limited settings.

Lysine residues of interferon regulatory factor 7 affect the replication and transcription activator-mediated lytic replication of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus/human herpesvirus 8

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2010
Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection goes through latent and lytic phases, which are controlled by the viral replication and transcription activator (RTA). Upon KSHV infection, the host responds by suppressing RTA-activated lytic gene expression through interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF-7), a key regulator of host innate immune ...

Developing FGF2 Mutants with Selectively Reduced Heparan Sulfate Affinity to Explore Their Impact on FGFR1 Signaling

open access: yesChemBioChem, Accepted Article.
Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) regulates signal transduction by forming complexes with its receptors, FGF receptors (FGFRs), and heparan sulfate (HS), playing a crucial role in biological systems. Although HS has been suggested to modulate FGF/FGFR signaling as a co‐receptor, multiple hypotheses exist regarding how HS affects FGF/FGFR signaling, and

Retention in Care among HIV-Infected Pregnant Women in Haiti with PMTCT Option B

open access: yesAIDS Research and Treatment, 2016
Background. Preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV relies on engagement in care during the prenatal, peripartum, and postpartum periods. Under PMTCT Option B, pregnant women with elevated CD4 counts are provided with antiretroviral prophylaxis ...
