Morphometric analysis of cirques in central Siberia's western Putorana Plateau: a proxy for palaeoclimate

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
A detailed morphometric analysis of 200 cirques across the western Putorana Plateau, central Siberia, was undertaken to investigate cirque development, reconstruct glaciers and infer palaeoclimatic conditions. Cirques are amphitheatre‐shaped landforms with mean length and widths of 936 and 1000 m, respectively, indicating a mature glacial landscape ...

Budding speciation, mitochondrial capture and introgression between surface and cave lineages in the Asellus aquaticus species complex

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Replicated pairs of ancestral and evolutionarily derived populations provide opportunities to test hypotheses about the deterministic laws of evolution. The Asellus aquaticus species complex is an invertebrate model system with several independent surface‐to‐cave transitions and a complicated and unresolved evolutionary history.

Co‐Culture of Mammalian Cells and Photosynthetic Microorganisms for Oxygen Supply in Engineered Tissues

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Continuous 28‐day light exposure alters behaviours of articular cartilage progenitor cells (ACPCs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). Co‐culture with Leptolyngbya and Synechococcus does not adversely affect the chondrogenic capacity of ACPCs over a 28‐day period, in contrast to co‐culture with Chlorella.
