Trade liberalization along the firm size distribution: The case of the EU‐South Korea FTA

open access: yesReview of International Economics, Volume 31, Issue 5, Page 1751-1792, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Leading theories suggest that amongst continuing exporters, lower variable trade costs should boost exports of smaller firms by the same or greater percentage rate than larger firms. However, investigating the impact of the deep EU‐South Korea FTA with French customs data, we find robust evidence to the contrary.

Large‐scale restoration of species‐rich dry grasslands on arable land: Environmental filtering drives successful species establishment over a period of 10 years

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 9, Page 1893-1903, September 2023., 2023
Sowing of regionally specific seed mixtures was successful and demonstrated to be a fast way of grassland restoration, particularly in terms of functional trait composition. The resulting species diversity depended on the colonisation processes, which are controlled by the functional composition of the already established communities.

Riverine flood potential assessment using metaheuristic hybrid machine learning algorithms

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 16, Issue 3, September 2023., 2023
Abstract This study presents the performance of stand‐alone and novel hybrid models combining the feed‐forward neural network (FFNN) and extreme gradient boosting (XGB) with the genetic algorithm (GA) optimization to determine the riverine flood potential at a local spatial scale, which is represented by the Gidra river basin, Slovakia.

Populations restored using regional seed are genetically diverse and similar to natural populations in the region

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 9, Page 2234-2244, September 2022., 2022
Regionally sourced seeds can produce genetically diverse populations at natural levels of genetic differentiation. Abstract Ecological restoration and plant re‐introductions aim to create plant populations that are genetically similar to natural populations to preserve the regional gene pool, yet genetically diverse to allow adaptation to a changing ...

The impact of offshoring on technical change: Evidence from Swedish manufacturing firms

open access: yesReview of International Economics, Volume 30, Issue 3, Page 796-818, August 2022., 2022
Abstract This paper examines the link between offshoring and technical change measured by patent and total factor productivity in order to sort out the causality. It applies instrumental variable and matching approaches on a panel of more than 7000 Swedish manufacturing firms over the period 2001–2014, and identify offshoring‐related intermediate ...

Toward bioeconomy of a multipurpose cereal: Cell wall chemistry of Sorghum is largely buffered against stem sugar content

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, Volume 99, Issue 4, Page 786-801, July/August 2022., 2022
Abstract Background and Objectives Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is a multipurpose crop with high potential for the bioeconomy. Ten sweet, grain and dual‐purpose sorghum genotypes were compared with respect to sugar‐related traits and cell wall composition.

Gender spillovers in foreign direct investments: An analysis of Namibia

open access: yesThunderbird International Business Review, Volume 64, Issue 4, Page 273-284, July/August 2022., 2022
Abstract We estimate FDI spillovers through the gender channel, as an additional measure to the total labour channel. This enables us to explicitly distinguish the role of females in labour spillovers. In addition, we provide an enhanced understanding of the distinction between spillovers in the manufacturing and services sectors.

R&D incentives and competitive pressure under hidden information

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, Volume 88, Issue 1, Page 56-78, July 2021., 2021
Abstract Within a principal‐agent model, the paper studies how hidden information affects incentives to invest in demand‐enhancing R&D of a firm competing in the product market. The analysis shows that, when the R&D outcome is private information of the innovating firm not only compared to its competitor, but also relative to its supplier, a ...

Influence of low temperatures on aggregate disruption of heavy clay soils

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2010
Heavy clay soils that are normally resistant to wind erosion, from study site Ostrožská Nová Ves situated in the foothills of the Bílé Karpaty Mountains, Czech Republic, were a subject of laboratory analyses. The analyses should found out the influence
