Adaptations in Sphagnum functional traits in response to increased elevation in karst plateau wetlands

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Sphagnum functional traits serve as crucial indicators of environmental change and are essential for predicting potential alterations in wetland plant functions. However, there exists a significant knowledge gap concerning the response of Sphagnum functional traits and functions to elevation gradients in plateau wetlands. This study, therefore,

Assessment of Hyporheic Macroinvertebrate Biodiversity Within Gravel Bars Before and After Flooding: Comparison of Morphology, Bulk‐Sample, and eDNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
eDNA metabarcoding is generally consistent with morphology and bulk‐sample metabarcoding in revealing changes in hyporheic macroinvertebrate biodiversity influenced by flood and lateral locations of hyporheic zones. The Usage History of the Aqueduct of Nîmes Reconstructed From Carbonate Archives: Operation, Modifications and Late Antique Breakdown and Change

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 41, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Anthropogenic carbonate deposits in Roman aqueducts can provide detailed environmental and archaeological information. The Roman aqueduct of Nîmes (France), famed for the Pont du Gard bridge, was built around AD 50 to convey water over 50 km to the city of Nemausus for drinking and bathing.

Budyko Curve Conformance Unravelling Hydrological Change in a Semi‐Arid Mediterranean‐Climate River Basin

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study applies an integration of Budyko diagnostics, change‐point detection, and dual attribution methods to the Gediz River Basin, revealing a major 1984 regime shift. Streamflow decline is driven mainly (50%–75%) by reduced precipitation, with secondary human impacts.

Thermal Regime Dynamics in a Karst Watershed Influenced by Groundwater and Urbanization

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study investigates how groundwater and urban development shape stream temperature patterns in the karstic Spring Creek watershed of central Pennsylvania, USA. Using high‐resolution monitoring, we found that groundwater inputs buffer temperature in some streams, while urbanised sub‐catchments experience extreme thermal surges due to heated runoff ...
