Influencing factors and formation mechanism of covered karst collapse in Liujiazhuang, Qufu City

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
By the end of 2019, four karst collapses had occurred in Liujiazhuang village, Qufu City, resulting in seven collapse points that caused damage to houses and farmland, ultimately leading to the relocation of the entire village.

Dynamic Risk Assessment of Karst Tunnel Collapse Based on Fuzzy-AHP: A Case Study of the LianHuaShan Tunnel, China

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
Tunnel collapse in the karst tunnel occurs suddenly. Dynamic risk assessment for tunnel collapse is more accurate than static analysis, which is not enough at the stage. The study designs a new questionnaire to establish dynamic risk assessment for karst

Development of a Sinkhole Raveling Chart Based on Cone Penetration Test (CPT) Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Naturally occurring sinkholes in Florida are formed when the soluble limestone bedrock weathers and creates cavities at its interface with the overburden finer-grained soils. The overburden soil then erodes into the limestone fissures, thus weakening the

Multi‐scale geophysical mapping of the brine and bedrock surfaces along the Dolores River, Paradox Valley, Colorado, December 2023

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 36-49, February 2026.
Abstract Total dissolved solids derived from salt dome–sourced brine in the underlying alluvial aquifer substantially increase with distance in the reach of the Dolores River that passes through Paradox Valley in southwestern Colorado. The area has been the site of salinity control operations since the 1990s to reduce salt loading to the downstream ...

A Causal‐Spatial Explainability Framework for Geological Hazard Susceptibility Modeling

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Data‐driven susceptibility models often act as black boxes, predicting where hazards may occur without explaining why. To address this gap, we propose a Causal‐Prior (CP) framework that integrates validated causal knowledge into training while yielding spatially grounded explanations.

Genetic models and influence factors of karst collapses in Loudi City of central Hunan, China

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
Loudi City in central Hunan has recorded 281 karst collapse incidents and tens of thousands of collapse pits, which made it one of the cities in China experiencing the most serious karst collapses.

Bat Migration Intensifies Cave Fish Richness Loss Under Climate Change in China

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Cave fish, the largest aquatic vertebrates in karst ecosystems, rely heavily on bat guano as a nutrient source. However, ongoing environmental change is degrading cave habitats and altering bat distributions. This study aims to assess how climate‐driven bat migration affects cave fish distributions in China, providing insights for ...

Seepage-induced sand-leakage karst collapse mechanism considering the soil arching effect

open access: yesShuiwen dizhi gongcheng dizhi
Sand-leakage karst collapse often occurs in the hidden karst area of the binary structure covering layer due to seepage. However, further research is needed to understand the macro and micro mechanical mechanisms of such collapse and the mechanical ...
