Simulated elephant foraging alters tree root exudation rates: Species‐specific responses and implications for belowground carbon dynamics in tropical forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Asian elephants play crucial roles in ecosystem functioning, and their interactions with plants influence above‐ and belowground carbon cycling. We tested whether their mechanically destructive foraging triggers short‐term, stress‐induced shifts in tree root exudation, an underappreciated pathway linking herbivory to belowground carbon processes.

Integrating Landscape Connectivity and Natural-Anthropogenic Interaction to Understand Karst Vegetation Restoration: A Case Study of Guizhou Province, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Because of implementation of ecological projects, the restoration of vegetation not only changes the typological composition and spatial structure of the landscape, but also improves the regional ecosystem function.

Breakdown development in cover beds, and landscape features induced by intrastratal gypsum karst [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 1996
Intrastratal karst is by far the predominant gypsum karst type. Its development may begin in deep-seated settings within rocks already buried by younger strata, and it proceeds increasingly rapidly as uplift brings gypsum sequences into progressively ...

Classification of tree species and standing dead trees in Boreal forests using UAV‐based RGB, multispectral, and LiDAR point clouds

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We evaluated single‐ and multi‐sensor UAV approaches for classifying tree species and standing dead trees in boreal forests, focusing on key biodiversity indicators such as European aspen. Using spectral and structural features extracted from RGB, multispectral (MSP), and LiDAR point clouds for 1,205 field‐measured trees, we compared classification ...
