Thermal characterization of KClO3 KBrO3 and KIO3

Materials Letters, 1985
Abstract The specific heats, thermal decompositions and thermal properties of the phase transitions in KClO3 KBrO3 and KIO3 crystals were measured. The thermal stability of the compounds decreased in the order KIO3 > KCIO3 > KBrO3. Over the temperature range 250–600 K, no phase transitions were detected for KBrO3: one at 545 K for KClO3 and two for ...

Raman spectra of irradiated NaClO3 and KClO3 crystals

Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - Section A, 1972
Pure undamaged NaClO3 and KClO3 crystals show four Raman lines arising from the internal oscillations in the ClO3 ion, besides a few other Raman lines due to lattice oscillations. On radiation damage by X-rays or γ-rays some new lines are observed in each crystal. In particular, two lines at ∼ 680 and ∼ 930 are assigned to the ozonide ion (O3

Raman studies of the phase transition in KClO3

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1989
Abstract Raman measurements of KClO3 from 77 to 630 K have confirmed the presence of a single phase transition at about 545 K. The transition was monitored by following the temperature dependence of the frequency and intensity of two external lattice modes of Ag character at about 50 and 80cm−1.

Colour centres in potassium chlorate, KClO3

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1967
Abstract The absorption spectrum of a X-ray irradiated KClO 3 crystal is reinvestigated and the results are discussed in relation to the earlier work. A new band with a sharp peak at 218 mμ is reported and attributed to be due to perturbation of the fundamental absorption of the crystal by the presence of point defects.

Catalysed thermal decomposition of KClO3 and carbon gasification

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2014
The catalytic decomposition of KClO3 is studied in the presence of MnO2, activated carbons and sodium sulphide. This investigation describes the use of thermogravimetry as a convenient technique to investigate catalytic activity of a simple chemical reaction. It is observed that the MnO2 catalyst decreases the decomposition temperature from 480 to 350 °

Vibrational spectra of molten and aqueous NaClO3 and KClO3

Chemical Physics Letters, 1972
Abstract Raman spectra of molten NaClO3 and KClO3 and of aqueous solutions of these salts were measured over the frequency interval from 50 to 1200 cm−1|. Infrared emission spectra of the molten chlorates and of chlorate-nitrate mixtures were recorded, and absorption spectra of aqueous sodium and potassium chlorate also were determined. The ν3(e) and

Far infrared optical properties of polycrystalline NaClO3, KClO3, NaBrO3 and KBrO3

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1973
Abstract The resonant frequencies, damping constants and oscillator strengths of far infrared lattice vibrations of polycrystalline NaClO3, KClO3, NaBrO3 and KBrO3 have been obtained through classical dispersion (CD) analysis of transmission data. Space group analysis has been applied for attribution assignments and to ascertain the translational and

O− detected by ESR as a radiation-induced electron-excess defect in KClO3

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1981
A family of ESR spectra from KClO3 crystals irradiated with x rays at 26 K are assigned to electron-excess defects consisting of O− ions trapped in different environments, which may be identified because the electron spin on O− polarizes the adjacent ions. In the primary configurations, O− is associated with ClO−2. Secondary configurations, in which O−

NQR and magnetic characteristics of the solid solution of NaClO3-KClO3

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1976
We measured the nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) of the solid solutions of NaClO3-KClO3 in the range of concentrations from 0 to 100% molar of KClO3 in (NaClO3 + + KClO3). The thermal diagram of the measured samples showed, that the solubility of the components in each other is limited.
