The clinical characteristics, diagnostic methods, and treatment of 33 patients with keratomycosis are reported. In 17 patients, there was a history of injury with vegetable matter, and in 8, the control injury had been treated with steroids and antibiotics. Of the 17 treated medically, five required subsequent surgical treatment.

Candida albicans was the most common fungus responsible for mycotic keratitis in our series from a northern climate, as opposed to southern climates where other fungi were more common. Pimaricin was effective in our patients with Candida infections and in one patient with Aspergillus infection that had been unresponsive to previous amphotericin B.

To report a case of corneal infection with Chrysosporium parvum, a filamentous fungus usually associated with pulmonary infections.A 43-year-old Saudi man had a corneal stromal infiltrate and perforation of his left eye. He was treated with a therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty and topical and systemic antifungal therapy.

AbstractFive cases of canine keratomycosis were diagnosed and treated at a private Veterinary Ophthalmology Practice in Melbourne, Australia. Clinical presentations varied between dogs. Predisposing factors were identified in 4 of 5 cases. Diagnostic modalities utilized were corneal cytology and fungal culture.

To evaluate cases and results of keratomycosis that developed after cataract surgery.Hospital de Guipúzcoa, San Sebastián, Spain.This retrospective study comprised 8 patients who developed keratomycosis soon after cataract surgery.Culture analysis revealed 7 cases of Aspergillus fumigatus and 1 of Aspergillus flavus.
