We use scanning nitrogen vacancy magnetometry to directly image the weak in‐plane magnetic moments in mixed phase BiFeO3 at the nanoscale and quantify the local magnetic moments to be 18.8±2.0 μB/nm2 in the rhombohedral‐like phase and 1.5±0.6 μB/nm2 in the well‐known non‐magnetic tetragonal‐like phase.

Stacking Fault Complexions in AgSbTe2 Thermoelectrics With Enhanced Electrical Conductivity
Atomic‐scale characterization resolves stacking fault complexion in AgSbTe2, showing Te and Sb segregation along with lattice dilation. Their enhanced effects on phonon scattering are modeled analytically. Although most defects also impede electron transport, local four‐point‐probe measurements reveal higher electrical conductivity at stacking fault ...

Kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) for the de-noising of communication signals [PDF]
This paper is concerned with the problem of de-noising for non-linear signals. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) cannot be applied to non-linear signals however it is known that using kernel functions, a non-linear signal can be transformed into a ...

Correspondence of NNGP Kernel and the Matern Kernel
Kernels representing limiting cases of neural network architectures have recently gained popularity. However, the application and performance of these new kernels compared to existing options, such as the Matern kernel, is not well studied. We take a practical approach to explore the neural network Gaussian process (NNGP) kernel and its application to ...

We present a framework for efficient extrapolation of reduced rank approximations, graph kernels, and locally linear embeddings (LLE) to unseen data. We also present a principled method to combine many of these kernels and then extrapolate them. Central to our method is a theorem for matrix approximation, and an extension of the representer theorem to ...

An Estimator of Mutual Information and its Application to Independence Testing
This paper proposes a novel estimator of mutual information for discrete and continuous variables. The main feature of this estimator is that it is zero for a large sample size n if and only if the two variables are independent. The estimator can be used

Structural Guidance in 3D Microgel‐in‐Hydrogel Systems to Improve Chondrogenesis
The Anisogel, an anisotropic microgel‐in‐hydrogel system, guides chondrogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSCs) modulated by the alignment and size of anisometric microgels. Chondrogenic markers are upregulated in an in vitro model and guided tissue infiltration is enhanced in a semi‐orthopedic mouse model due to the physico ...
